Default Cad plating question

Does anyone have a contact for a plating company that handles low-volume work (only a few pieces of hardware)? I've checked locally to no avail.

At the moment, I literally need two large washers gold cadmium plated...

Hi Andreas,

I work with several platers but I don't know anyone who would do a job that small,....... We take in several batches a year of various hardware to be done.

My suggestion would be to do this yourself using Caswell Plating kits. Cad is now considered a hazardous material so the majority of what you've seen for many years is yellow zinc plated.

Most plating plants have minimum charges, you might be able to convince somebody to do your two washers as a test sample to evaluate their plating. Or possible post the specifics on the two washers you need maybe someone has them available. Wurth nuts and bolts are brand that I am aware of that comes gold cad plated. Many supply houses only sell silver zinc coating and when people really need the volume gold cad plated they send all the new pieces out to be coated. Jim

Steve,.
Interesting, I did not think about yellow zinc. What are the large cupped washers (that come with the RS engine mounts) plated in - cad or zinc? The finish seems to scratch pretty easy.

I just talked to a company in Baltimore - they wanted $225 to do two washers. But the guy I spoke with said he would handle this on the side for $100 cash. I almost fell on the floor.

Andreas, I am regularly getting stuff yellow zinc plated. I have a guy that does a FANTASTIC job. You can view some of his work here: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...ollection.html Josh and I do some work together and somehow he ended up with most of the shiny goodies.

I clean all the pieces with degreaser and then I bead blast them before taking them to the plater.

If you are interested in having me include your items with mine, shoot me a PM and I will send you my address.

Andreas,

My guy will do it free. You will just need to mail the parts to me.

Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers!

Eastwood Products has a three step paint process that mimics cad plating. Gold base, red zinc, and green zinc. They also have a Silver cad paint.

Those are all yellow zinc and have been for many years,...

One can specify plating thicknesses for additional cost as they leave it in the tank longer. That will help make the part more scratch-resistant.

Andreas - Let me speak up for all the inquiring minds... Why the frell are you needing to plate 2 washers? Aren't things shiny enough for you when you get done cleaning them?
