Default Another engine mount thread.....

After asking dozens of questions about motor mounts my son and I came to different conclusions as to which mounts to get.

We will both use the new floor jack to install them.

Many thanks to eveyone who provided feedback and advice!!!

Awesome. Are you also replacing the transmission mount?

would definitely like to get your input as to what you think of the two different mounts. With the WEVO's are you or your son going to strengthen the engine carrier?

Are those RS mounts? I thought the RS mounts were more complicated for some reason.

The cast housing iterations are RS mounts.

I would leave the trans mount alone for a street car, to be honest.

Good to know. I also want to upgrade my engine mounts to RS ones, but I thought that if you went with RS or Evo mounts and left the trans mount alone, you'd risk the chance of your engine carrier to crack at the solder joints.

I'm also curious. Is there any proof that it would crack?

I've run RS mounts in all three of my 993's no cracking problems.

I have bent the carrier loosening tough stud nuts on std motormounts before (it was on a 964). Yikes!

I tried to take some photos that would show more detail. The Wevo's are hard to photograph. The photos don't capture the look of the anodized finish. In my estimation the quality is extremely good for both the RS mounts and the Wevo's. The Porsche mounts have alot more rubber in them and a hole drilled in the metal part of the mount that might be for draining water.

Price was very similar for both sets. You can replace the rubber pillows on the Wevos which would make them new again.

Once we have both sets installed I'll give my impressions. The plan is to install the RS mounts in my son's '90 964 tomorrow. His car is remarkably similar to my '95 993. I'm hoping to notice an improvement in ease of shifting. I'll have to wait to install the new mounts in my car. I opted to order new mounting hardware rather than re-use the old stuff, and it has not yet arrived.

Regarding the engine carrier, we plan to inspect them for any cracks at the welds. I doubt that we will find any. Rennline will reinforce them for $250 (you send in your carrier) or you can order a new one (stock unit at Pelican is $493.25 PN 993-115-021-90, RS unit is $493.25 PN 115-021-41). Or you could just have a reinforcement welded on at any shop.

Thanks,

Jim

I believe the wevos have a hole in them for water drainage as well. Its cose to the elastomer.

I know its a slight pain, but it would be great to try both mounts on the same car. That way you will know if one is noiser than the other without the variable of a different car. Just replace one mount at a time and it would take more than 20 minutes to swap them out.

Like everyone else, Im anxious to hear the results of your tests.

Can't wait to hear your impression on the outcome.
