You will be missed ... (even though I did have to bail on Monterey and have never actually met you ... and I don't want to see that thrown in my face two posts down the street, either ...

Announcing Sep 21 that they'll debut shortly afterwards at the Paris Auto Show Oct 2, they know there'll be a lot of interest in eveything that makes the car special, & that they'll be expected to show that. A manual top on a $204k USD Porsche definitely makes the car special in today's auto culture.
Compared to what transpired just in this last week to announce the 997 Speedster, Porsche Auto Group followed similar steps for the Boxster Spyder's release, not announcing the model existed until one month prior to its big debut at the Dec 2009 LA Motor Show. Similarly, for its web introduction, it was initially very hard to find more than one image of the top -- compared to the flood of every other type of press photos, yet its manual top was a feature that made the car special.
Right before the big 2009 premiere, Porsche released this promotional video, showing top operation (starting @ 2:30).

At its LA Motor Show debut, Porsche went out of its way to demonstrate the Boxster Spyder's top multiple times, & RLers like cayman (Donavan) were there to photograph it.
PCNA later put on a similar show at the NY Int'l Auto Show.

Please hunt down pix with the roof raised
I think we both know the chances of this top being ready for prime time are Zero to none. Porsche had a HELL of a time with the '89 top and held the car back for months because they couldn't get the compound curvature of the side windows right so they would mate with the upper edge when closed (and of course, they re-addressed that unsolved issue with the '94 redesign).
I'm sure the reason they are not showing a top on their website for the car at this point, is because they don't have one that works. They 'allude' to it, but come just short of showing it ....
Same as 1989. No one got to see a top work until that car was shipped to the dealers ...
How about a cookie for effort??

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on Rennlist.
If symptoms persist after this soothing video,
take 2 Speedster humps & call Porsche in the morning...

Yep.
Another day, another new iteration of the Porsche 911. Not that we're complaining. This time around we got to feast our lucky eyes on the limited-edition 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster while it makes its world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
The 911 Speedster is designed to pay homage to the original Porsche 356. Combine the French Racing Blue paint job, 408 horsepower flat-six engine and a low run of 356 models, and we expect the 911 Speedster to be sold out by the time you are done looking through the high-res image gallery below.
