Default Mysterious red connector

Last night I removed the driver's side door pocket. Underneath near the inside door release handle there is a flat red 5 pin connector. It is not mated to anything. Anybody know what it is for?

Hi Paul902,
Do you have the Nokia sound system amplifier? If not this could be it's use when that option is in place

It's for the DSP sound upgrade linked to the Nokia system, there is a small control panel that clips in under the door pocket lid.

Does one only need the panel to get this to work or is there more to it ?

I believe there is more to it - specifically a special amp below the passenger seat. I have this option and I must say I wouldn't bother with the upgrade. There are better aftermarket alternatives.

You're a funny one! I'm just such a low tech guy - air cooled car, tube amps,
darkroom - that I don't own a digital camera. When I need it I get a lend of one, but it didn't happen last night. Forgive me this once?

I think I have the Hifi option, too, but obviously no amp there, so probably the DSP is another unit.

Is that the red connector with the VW/Audi emblem on it? I saw that, too, in the spot where you are describing, when I was replacing the cracked speaker grille.

I didn't notive the VW on it, but likely the same one. Kinda hard to miss, really, once you have removed the door pocket.

Cool!

The DSP option is a separate option beyond the hifi option, so you may have the amp under the seat but not the DSP thing.
