Default Sai disable ????

Have a '95 ...no SAI fault for inspection.
Is there a way to circumvent the fault code on the later models?
Seems there should be a way as it does not essentially affect emissions.
May go for a later model and don't want the problem.

95's don't monitor the SAI, so you will never get the code, it's only the later cars that have the SAI CEL.

Fred,
Later ('96-'98) 993 models have this issue. The only way around it is to move to a state that doesn't have emissions testing.

Do some searches in this forum for: SAI, CEL, emissions, reading codes, etc for more info. This is a topic that has been beaten into the ground on the forum.

Pull the SAI fuse and it will disable the system.. thereby circumventing any SAI issues..

Coleman you are a genius, why couldn't the many others who have studied this come up with this answer. Please save mankind from another blight and provide us with the cure for cancer... if you have a spare moment.

Thanks Coleman.....I've read the endless stream of posts on this topic. Knew there had to be a quick way to an answer. Will tuck that little gem away for possible future reference.

Fred, you should read some more SAI posts here... unless my "extreme sarcasm" detector is on the blink, your reply seemed serious.
There is no quick/easy answer on this.
My short answer is: Don't let this stop you from buying the car you want.

Phil, he said he is considering a 96-98 car.

Comeon, guys. If you pull the SAI fuse, do you believe the emissions test will not show this on the OBDII systems of the 96-08 993s?

I just want the CEL to go away.... the fuse for the SAI is what # and does it control anything else?? or is it easier to just unplug the light since I do not have DEQ requirements in Bend?

Ah - got it. I don't know the answer. I have disabled mine prior to replacing the 10-yr old spark plug wires with an EQUUS OBDII plug in that cost aboyut $140. But this needs to be done every 100 miles or less. Sorry.

Thanks again. What I was looking for...without having to re-read the myriad posts on this subject (it ranks right up there with the Mobil 1 and engine shield removal subjects) was whether any wizard has found a way to trick the DME. Looks like it hasn't been done yet.
Just thinking of moving on to a cabrio which may mean a later model. No rush.

The by-pass from the SAI valve receptacle to the cats seems to work for those who have tried it. It looked simple and cheap enough. I may go that route if the time comes.

Wonder what happened to that chip that was being developed? Anyone know?

Yes, on the chip. The company announced ontheir web site that they are not offering it anymore. They had a computer meltdown that put them in arrears on their base business (whihc was not the chip) and made a business decision. We can speculate on other factors, but that is their position.
