I am down to the last steps of the engine/tranny removal and I am stuck.
I removed the tranny crossmember support, but it appears as though there are two support bars that go from the point where the crossmember and tranny meet to inside the tunnel a ways. I don'tsee any reference to this in the engine drop threads.
Do they need to come out? Sorry, first 993 drop so I am a rookie.
yes sir, take a 17mm (IIRC) boxed end wrench and reach up there in the tunnel removing the two bolts. They arent very long, and easier to get out that what it appears.
Ok, she's out. Thnak for the help. Looked obvious, but I didn't see any references to that in the drop threads.
Next, I can't seem to get the transmission seperated form the engine. On the 915 I am able to press the fork and wiggle it off, but in this case I can;t seem to get it. It is pule dout about 1/4" but I can;t get the fork to dissengage. Am I missing somehting?
Thanks again and I'm sure this will not be my last post on this project.
Full rebuild
Tranny freshen and LSD rebuild on the way.
Gotta remove the t/o fork cross shaft before you can split the lump/trans. There is a 10mm headed bolt near the diff cover on the trans, local to the bellhousing. remove the retainings strap, then the black plastic dust cover (round) this exposes the threaded end of the cross shaft. I made a T-handled extractor, but you can use a 6mm bolt to screw into the shaft, which allows you to pull it out.
