Clutch pedal hanging up
#16
Is this problem more prevalent on 95s? It looks like most people who respond have a 95.
In the parts list there are 4 different kinematic levers available. Is it best to just go with the latest part number, or are they specific to the year of your car?

You can't get the obsoleted part numbers, so just order the newest and make sure that what you get is that part. If you're looking at the Parts Katalogues, they indicate if a part # is obsoleted.

Mine sticks some times at about the last inch of travel. If I let the pedal out quickly, it doesn't happen. I bleed my slave once a year, and have replaced it before, so my problem is likely the kinematic lever? What kind of cost, and about how much time is that to replace. Mine is a '95.
Thanks!

The part is cheap, but it takes some time to install. It probably took me 3-4 hours total, but I'm pretty slow. It's not hard work, but it does take time.

Had the same problem. My mechanic John Walker here in Seattle sprayed the cluster with lube and now it doesn't hang and is very smooth. I thought I was going to have to replace the slave.
Took about 2 days for it to work in but then it was smooth as new.

Replaced both slave cylinder and master cylinder to solve the problem. Still have an occassional click coming from the transmission area when releasing the clutch in neutral.

Not to hijack, but I have occasional roughness in my clutch travel and was going to follow the steps talked about here. Then I noticed that it only happens when pushing the pedal in, not when coming out. About halfway through there is a loud clicking noise that seems to come from the pedals. Lube the assembly?

If you search on kinematic lever someone helpfully gave photographs. I have a vague recollection of the correct one being green. I had it done a few years back and so far, touch wood, no issue with hanging.

Follow up. Mark at Akers worked on my sticky clutch today. With 100K+ original miles the rubber boot covering the slave cylinder was broken and dirty. He cleaned, lubed the assembly and I had him change fluid and bleed system. Now, smooth as silk. Believe this is original clutch, when that needs replacement will also replace the slave cylinder at the same time.
Thanks all for your feedback.

Eric,
You where correct again, I'm not one of the lucky ones. Clean and lube was temp fix. Master failed shortly after so, just replaced both the master and slave. Followed w/full fluid flush-change.

My mechanic replaced my slave and the problem went away for good ......Knock on wood...but he also said that he believes this problem with the slaves is because most of them still have the original fluid in them which makes a 95's fluid almost 14 yrs old.
My question to good rennlist mechanics is "does anyone else agree with that idea?"
