Damn.... GREAT post. What a road trip. When I retire, in 2 yrs 7 months and counting, my first trip will be a road trip to Alaska. Won't be in the 993, but I can't tell you how much I am lookiing forward to it. And your post and just reinforced my desire.

Enjoy the C4S......

Now THAT's how you buy a 993! I bought mine in Denver and drove to LA...a "local" trip compared to yours. These cars are one of a kind, congrats, and enjoy.

Thanks for all the nice comments... Now that the trip is over I have no regrets whatsoever, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being a little nervous before we started. Nobody wants to get a new Porsche and trash it on the way home.

The reality of the Alaska Highway is that it's not all paved. If you check the road maps everything is listed as blacktop, but construction and road damage virtually guarantee long stretches of gravel and potholes. We definitely spent a few hours driving at 20mph, but there are plenty of chances to make up for that as well - you're bound to hit some nice pavement over 3700 miles. Plus how often can you drive for an hour and not see a single car?

I'm already out of storage space (guess I need to upgrade to a paying member), but here are some more pictures if you're interested:

You need to become a member and post the photos. They are great. And you have the passion.... you'll fit in just fine

Alright, I've already gotten my money's worth from this website anyway, so I started a membership and put up some more pictures. This is the last of them!

Camera is a Sony alpha 100 DSLR. Lens is 18-70mm f3.5-5.6. The real trick is I took about 6 pictures and stuck them together using panoramic software.

Cool effect. I picked up a Alpha 700 DSLR a few months ago but haven't mastered it yet...

Default OT: License Plates

Growing up in the northeast we used to take road trips and as kids we would try to see how many different license plates we could identify... I imagine yours was the only Arizona plate you saw... Must have turned some heads, too. Did you see any other Porsches?

Thanks for sharing those pics, and congratulations for your purchase! Wonderful trip also. Some of your pics remind me our last year trip with my wife: we hiked the Chilkoot trail and drove trough a small part of your huge but very nice state

Cheers

There should be a poll that asks "Would you take your garage queen on roadtrip from CO to AK?"

He who dies with the nicest toys still dies.
