Wow, what a trip. I like the tent in one of the photo's, did you plan that. I hope it wasn't close to the bear photos.
We took 8 days to make the trip (spent an extra day in Glacier National Park and in Banff National Park), and camped 4 of the nights. It's not always easy to stay in a motel once you get into northern Canada - sometimes camping is just as appealing as the motel options.

Funny you should mention the bears... We saw 8 bears within about 50 miles on the Cassiar highway in BC. This highway is incredibly isolated, with only a handful of gas stations (i.e. old school gas pumps) and one town over a stretch of over 400 miles. The day we spotted the bears we got to the one and only town and found that all motels were booked. We were almost out of gas (next gas station was at least 120 miles), and the pumps were shut off for the night. Add in the fact that it's now 11pm, raining, cold, and we had just seen 8 bears... My wife and I slept in the pcar that night.

Holy smokes.. that is really quite a drive. But I do have a question, is it feasible to drive the C4S during winter times in Alaska? I was talking to my wife and suggested doing a road trip to the great north in the winter season but she did not like the idea of getting stuck in snowy winter.
The PO of this car included a set of blizzaks on separate rims in the sale (had those mailed north). I am planning to try them out a little bit this winter, but I probably won't use the car Dec. - Feb. regardless as I don't want someone else to run into me. I'll have to report back later once I've used the tires.

As for driving north in the winter, I think it would be doable, but you'd need to plan things out. Several of the gas stations close after the RV season (May - Sept.), so you have to pay attention to what's open. You would also need to coordinate your distances with motel options. The "Milepost" book is a good reference with details of the entire Alaska highway.

As far as the C4S goes, you'd definitely need blizzaks or possibly even studded tires. I'm curious to see how the car does this winter.

Benji,

That's quite a drive. Glad you made it home safe and sound. Reminds me of our epic drive to Dallas this spring.

You have a great car. Enjoy in fine health.

Amazing pictures and fantastic road trip. Makes my drive home in the 993 from Seattle to Baltimore (via Canada) pale by comparison!

Pics and the car look great. My wife and I have been thinking about making a trip to Alaska (flying of course), looks like it would be a great time.

Default Wow...

Can't think of a better way to bond with your new ride--and with the beautiful outdoors--than to schedule a 3700 road trip! Great story, cool car, stunning photos!

Congrats, and I hope you enjoy many more happy miles.

Rick
