I have a 1995 C2 Cabriolet with just over 19,000 miles and my dash has two bumps on the passenger side that drive me crazy. The car has always been garage kept and is a fair weather car that does not sit for long periods out in the sun. My 1990 964 had this same problem, what is the dash made of under the vinyl/leather and why do they warp like this ? I can still purchase a new dash from Porsche for a mere $2300 but the thought of removing my original windshield to replace it has turned me off doing it. Any fixes out there other than a new dash ?
I think the dash on a 993 comes out pretty easy, no need to remove the windshield. Just take off the defroster trim between the dash and windshield, then remove a few screws (including one inside the center AC vent), and lift it off. I haven't removed one, but maybe someone who has will chime in.
Remove the long plastic cover that runs along the base of the windscreen, from memory there are 5 screws. I believe there are two additional screws under this panel that need to be removed.
At the two ends of the dashboard on the side part that faces the door there are two plastic plates that are friction fit and simply pry out, underneath there are two screws to remove.
Finally there is a nut behind the centre of the dash that holds the dash cover in place. You need to remove the guage closest to the centre of the dashboard. With the guage out feel behend the dash and you will find one nut to be removed.
After that the dashboard lifts off.
All from memory so apologies if I left something out.
Thanks for all the replies. I am glad to know the dash removal is less tedious than I thought, particularly knowing the windshield does not have to come out.
