Why did you buy a Porsche?

I remember back as a kid always admiring the car (childhood dream), having posters of the car (w/ and w/o girls) plastered on my walls. I remember having a magazine, the name escapes me with a picture from an above view of an orange or green 911, the curves were amazing. Fast foward, I was in the market for a convertible and thought, hmm, let me look at Pcars. I stumbled across a '95 cab, white/blue and had to have it. That was my first. Sold it and had to find another, in white of course. Searched on and off for a few years and came across my 2S. It's one of a kind and gets so many compliments on it whether it's moving or parked in the garage.
Everytime I see a 993 in a movie, old or new, I am like - beautiful car ! ! !

There is nothing more engaging to drive than a 911, its such a pure sports car, its unbelievable, everytime I drive it I am reminded, Porsche, there is no substitute.

Wanted one since I saw my first, couldn't have been much older than six or seven. The appreciation of the cars took some years to develop but I can remember the first to this day. This may sound a little dumb but the first time I got to sit in one (a brand new 83 930 at Three Point Motors in Victoria!) the thing that stuck in my mind most was the sound and feel of that door unlatching and then closing behind me.....WHAT AN AMAZING SOUND! That is something that I really miss on the new cars.

An early experience circa 1978 riding in the backseat of a 70's vintage 911 targa with my luggage on my lap after being picked up at SFO by my then girlfriend's, cousin's boyfriend. Speeding across the Bay Bridge toward the East Bay watching the bridge structure flash by overhead, vowing to eventually owning one of these cars and never having to ride in the backseat ever again.
Located and purchased my first 911 in 1997, a perfect unmodified Pacific Blue 82SC. A local car, complete with window sticker from a local dealer presently selling VW/Audi only. Located and eventually stepping into 993 ownership in late 2007.

My neighbor got a Mexico? blue SC in about 1978. I was 11. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Then there was the Pioneer speaker poster on my wall in prep school.
When I was 19, my girlfriend's dad had a '85 M491 Targa. We would get up, go over to his office, trade cars with him and drive it around at the beach all day. All we had to do was have it back at his office by 5. That was an incredible summer, and when I knew I would own one someday.
The next girlfriend got a 928S4 for her 19th birthday (professional tennis player.) It was an unbelievable car. Loved the sound of that aluminum V8, but it wasn't the 911. (She wasn't as cool as the last girl either.)
Fast forward to 1996 and I was making my first real money (???) I was living in Seattle and needed a new car. Went to the Porsche dealer in Belleview and saw my first 993. I was blown away. Went home to tell my wife I was getting one, and she reminded me that she was pregnant...I chose a Suburban instead. I also started my subscription to Excellence.
Fast forward to 2006 and I realized that the kids are now out of car seats, and are small enough to be comfy in the back of a 911.
Started looking for an '85 M491 Targa...(Old girlfriend got a bedonkadonk, so she's out.)
Found a beautiful '88 Cab, a perfect 91 Targa, and a really nice 2000 996, all for about the same money, all local. Nearly pulled the trigger on the cab, made an offer on the 964. Then I found my 993 across the country on a layover in SFO.
Happy with my decision.....

Wanted a 911 ever since I was a kid. Fast forward to 1997. A business colleague was transfered by his company from Switzerland to the US to work for 5 years. He brought a pristine 1980 euro 911sc with him in petrol blue. It had all the desired upgrades i.e. Pop up valve, chain tensioners, ssi's, momo wheel etc. Three months later, he was asked to return to Switzerland to take up new responsibilities. He did not want to ship it back and offered it to me at a steal. 7 years later, I sold it for more than I paid which allowed me to buy my dream car. A 993!

My story is that I watched Robert Redford and Natalie Wood in "Downhill Racer" around 1969......he was an American ski champion and she was a beautiful European girl with a Porsche. I fell in love with the car at age 13, but could only afford a pair of used fast downhill ski's - took to skiing like a complete maniac...had to wait a LONG time for the car.
One marriage, two houses, 3 kids later I finally bought my first Porsche this winter - flew from Boston and drove it back from S. Cal with my wife. Amazing experience...amazing car....well worth the long wait.
I'm going to tell my kids in their early 20's not to wait so long I think. Life's too sort to wait as long as I have.

It was on my list of things to do before 30.
As far as I am concerned the 911's were the only sport car that sounded like one.
OK.. those Ferr_____'s sound like a sports car too but
a) I wanted my car to start in the mornings
b) I wanted a sports car that was parked in my garage not the shop's
AL
PS. " I love big butts and I can not lie"

Because I am going to die some day. I wanted to own and drive a Porsche before I die. I heard that owning a Porsche after you die is as useless as an "I'd hit it" thread without pictures.

My best friend's dad in junior high school was a doctor and had a blue targa 911. I knew since I was 13 that I was going to have a 911 of my own. My Dad had 2 914s, a 944, and a convertible 968. Got to drive them all and each one of them is fun in it's own way. I test drove a few over the years but never pulled the trigger - too many other things to spend $ on. My wife knew that I wanted a 911 and she saw this one in a local car lot. Long story short, she said if you want it buy it, the car seat fits in the back, and I'm the proud owner since May 2006. I'm so very glad that I finally bought my dream car. It is a joy to drive and work on.
