My friend went to the export customs house in Long Beach and said it was full, literally thousands of Cayennes, Benz and BMW's all black, all going to Russia and China... I think the US is circling the drain...
Andreas,
Are you saying a 993 that sells for USD40,000 in the US sells for 25,000 euros in Switzerland ? Or 40,000 euros? I think it's probably north of 40,000 euros.
Hi there! The dolar is a little low than the Swiss Franc. we 'll say they are equal at this moment. So if i buy a car there for 40k here will be the same price. The difference is that here a well maintaned 993 C4s for exemple will be around 62000$ or even more if is a low mileage. In the Usa you can find the same C4S for let's say 36000$ (correct me if i'm wrong).
Anyways the difference is quite important. Then you can afford a 993 Turbo by the same way.

RAB, i ll get contact you by MP. .
Probably not for $36,000... more like mid-$40s and up.
Almost all my Porsches come from US
Waiting for my new for me 993 C2S red/cashmere and nr 18 P carfor me so far - that I bought in Malibu 3 months ago - TRE just finished the very much needed..... upgrades - and it is on the way to long beach as I type - 3´6 more weeks and it is cruising in Norway - can´t wait
Oh - my reasons were both availability since I only wanted this color combo and C2S and of course saving something between 15-20K - yes we have outrages taxes here.....
I have to add that it looks quite complicate to export the car with the customs in Usa and pay taxes here..That make me stop with that transaction. Finally i m going to pay the same here, for the same car!..So, don't worry guys.
But the dolar is weak that's for sure!.
Keep in mind that for importing cars from outside the EU (into the EU) you pay Duty and VAT plus car registration tax plus shipping. For the car I just purchased, this adds up to $11,500 in taxes, $6,300 in container shipping and $15,675 in registration taxes plus $3,000 in annual road tax (the last two being special to Ireland). A big plus for US cars is that they are usually better maintained, have lower mileage and are in better condition, especially for West Coast cars (no road salt). Combine this with a weak dollar and it makes a lot of sense. The hardest part is waiting 6 weeks for the shippment.
Hi Frank, and thanks for your answer, i thinks that's not the case for Switzerland, (we're outside of the UE) since i got an answer from a guy who did this transaction. He add on 10% tax and zoll, plus 2500 for shipping, plus, say, a generous CHF600 to get it up to spec.
I see for Ireland is quite expensive!.
It looks lately that the waiting time is much more than 6 weeks unfortunately.
