A/C question
Today took my 95 cab for a/c diagnostic I`ve never used the a/c before but knew it wasn`t working so anyway took it in for leak test and all the cost for testing $107
Result is no leak so they will put dye in and recharge it and hopefully will spitting out ice cubes
Question is $107 right for just testing ? Now cost will be $366 total with recharge . I`m ok with price because told them to go ahead but just curious .
Cheers Guy

I recharged mine 3 years ago since it was weak and it has been ice cold, even for a Cab in the middle of the summer, since then.
Just buy a bottle of R-134a refrigerant and hose with guague or a kit like this for $40 or so...

That sounds like a lot for a re-charge. A mechanic buddy of mine recharged my system for free while I watched, with the top-of-the-line Snap-On machine. Took about 20 minutes. Ask the shop what exactly $366 pays for. All the tech has to do is connect two hoses and press a couple of buttons on the machine.

Local auto aircon shop offers FREE testing. Don't know what they charge for a refill, but that sounds like a lot for a test.....I'd at least expect the cost of the test to be educted from the total if you get them to do the recharge.

I also have the same issue with my 95 A/C. They know is there is a leak but they cant find it. Let me know were they find it on yours. Buy the way it does seem high. The kit is cheap and very easy to use. Mine has a leak pretty bad I can fill it today and by tomorrow its gone. Good luck

You don't want to overfill either or it won't cool as well.
Here is the table for the 993. So, referencing the table, let's say you are at 95 degrees ambient temperature. The pressure on the high pressure valve should be between 196 and 254 PSI's. On the low side (low pressure valve) it should be between 10-17 psi. Since you most likely be connected on the low pressure valve, the 10-17 PSI range is what you should be reading on the gauge.
You can confirm it by placing a thermometer on the vent and the air temp reading should be between 48 - 55 degrees.
When you load the R134a refrigerant, make sure that the AC is running. Watch what you are doing as the engine will be running with the alternator fan and belts spinning very close to your precious fingers... and don't wear a tie either while you do this...not a good idea.
