Default Miles on ODO and Engine Hours

Its a known issue from years past that our odometers are really easy to wound back. It is also known that you can read the engine hours on our 993's. There have been some threads in the past about this and somehow this had stuck in my mind. When I bought my new C class which is my daily driver, it has a nifty trip computer that tells you the engine hours, average miles and the trip miles. On purpose I left it running since new just to do a completely unscientific experiment to verify that 35mph as an average is a good way to calculate the actual miles on a 993 multiplying 35 X Engine hours.
I usually drive ahem... spirited... ( that is why my MPG is down the gutter) on a mixed itinerary, highway and city daily. I also drive it like it has a stick shift because I constantly use the "tiptronic mode" so to speak, as my engine is gutless and I want torque now. So pretty much I drive it like my 993 on a daily basis.
6500 miles later, guess what.. the average is 30mph! So I guess for a low mile car, garage queen that mostly see highway a 35mph average would be ok, but for a city/highway higher mile car I think a 30mph average should be pretty much on the money...
Thought I should share my completely unscientific experiment

I just checked the print out from my PPI from my purchase of my 993TT and it is bang on at 985 Hours and 33,639 Miles for an average of 34.15 MPH.

Great experiment and one more piece of information to add to the inspection list.

Interesting and similar results. I've had my car for almost 1 year and check the average speed driven between filling the gas tank on the OBC. Part city and part hiway driving-the OBC tells me my average speed is between 30 and 33 miles per hour between each filling of the gas tank.

I'll see if I can get the data for engine hours after my next service visit. I doubt that the 35mph rule will work for me as my miles are ~95% highway.

That would be interesting. Dont be surprised though... That is what I thought as 80% of my commute is on HWY and I'm pushing some XXX digits there some times You have to add, start, idle, pulling in and out, stopping times etc which increase the hours of the engine while lowering the average mph...

Any mechanic with the right tool will tell you if you ask nicely...no need for violence.
