Engine protection and cach pan on 993.
This summer I am going to California and it has been suggested that I should remove the protection/catch pan from under the engine to give better cooling for the engine. Any pros and cons concerning this would be appreciated. The car is a 1998 993 Cabrio.

Do not take it of, your engine will overheat since this seriously messes up the aerodynamics of the car.
Sorry couldn't resist
Your visit to CA will probably be great (whether you take the engine tray with you or not ).

I'm in Cali and I put my under-engine protective plate back on because I seem to be a debris and animal magnet and I'd rather not have debris and waterfowl bouncing into my expen$ive engine bits. My theory is it only effects engine temps when the car is not moving. I'm not buying the "Swiss noise regs" theory since there are also side marker lights on the euro 993's and Porsche deleted those on N. American market cars so it would have been even easier to leave off the under-engine protective plate if it was only made for Swiss noise regulations.
EDIT: No offense to Alan -- I'm just spouting off my .002 cents!!
