Showboat Post - Lots of pictures pre/post detailing

Wow! Car looks great! I need someone to do that to my car. You're right about Guards red looking spidery quite easily. My car has low mileage, too (22k), and I wish the paint looked more like a 22k mile car. It's not bad, but I think I'll get it professionally detailed next season.

An awful lot of work goes into detailing a car to that level.
For those of us who do the 'full class' concours fandango -- (ask us how we know) -- yes, I would guesstimate a good 3 days worth (i.e. approx. 25 hrs.) of time to 'fully-prepare' a car. Since most of us don't have 3 consecutive days to devote to such an endeavor -- we're often 'confined' to prepping a care WEEKS in advance coz the weather (and family schedules) don't always 'co-operate'.
I think your $$$ was well-spent. You received your car back, in a pristine condition, with a fast turn-around.
Enjoy it ...and enjoy the stares of those whom you pass.

These jobs are not cheap...and they are not the $199 gold special detail the dealers offer (although people commonly assume they are).
I think it's a worthwhile investment because I only drive a couple thousand miles a year and the car is always inside and covered, so the work should last a good, long time.

As a follow up, I got my car back from RickRac. He was referred to me on the concours forum and seems to be one of the only shops in the Boston area which does true, professional level detailing. He is sending more pics of the car in process, so I'll post those when I have them from him alng with his contact info if anyone would like to contact him for services (or if interested, please PM me and I'll pass it along).
He did a fine job. No swirl marks whatsoever. The paint is mirror-like. Perhaps best of all, he arranged to have my driver side seat bolster repaired. It looks like new.
Here are a couple of pics until I get the full work in progrees stuff from Rick.

I'm pretty disappointed it was cancelled, and sorry to miss you too. I hope they reschedule. It's so much fun seeing all the different types of Porsches.
Rickrac's shop is in Burlington. Very nice, honest guy who does excellent work. He spent 40+ hours on the car. I thought it looked pretty good going in, but he stripped off all the wax, clay bar etc., performed the paint correction (i.e. getting rid of the swirls and fine scratches) and they re-waxed it. In the end, it looks like a mirror, paint looks really deep and no swirls at all, even in the bright sun light.
He outsourced the seat work to a guy that does Ferraris and other classics, and he also outsourced to a guy who repaired some rim rash from the previous owner.
I've gone a little nuts since I bought the car in April, 2007 (with 29K miles)--
* Top end (EPE)
* Install RoW MO30/Bilstein HD set up (EPE)
* Refinish headliner as it attaches to sun roof
* Replace all plastic interior parts which had fissures or cracks (including door inserts and seat back trim)
* Recondition special grained leather (a C2S feature) on doors and dash.
* Replace weather stripping on driver's side door
* Full paint correction to remove swirl marks
* Repair rim rash on right rear wheel (from PO)
* Repair bolsters
* Bumper respray
* Replace stone guards on fenders
* Re-glue upholstery doors.
* Lloyds Carrera 'S' custom mats.
I think I'm out of things to do for now. LOL
