Take any group of people with an interest in any topic...Cars, trucks, motorcycles, rock music, blues, bluegrass, dogs, cats, birds, lawns mowers, and even growing tomatoes (especially growing tomatoes here in the South) and you will find individuals who fit in each of your three categories. It's human nature I suppose.

It is amazing what you can hear and the way people pre-judge others when they are outside of a circle. The circle found on this site has no fence around it and I was enjoying it long before I got my first P car.

OldGuy.....hey, how did your son make out on the speeding ticket he got in your BMW? You post reminded me of the good ole days (1972-1976) making runs up to Mammoth for weekends. Is the Chart House still there?

Since I was at the Los Angeles Ferrari Concourso this weekend and a member of PCA I feel that the following definitions are are valid.

Elitist - Ferrari Owners, especially those who only worship at the alter of the Horse [crap]. I swear these people have a Napoleon complex.

Purist - Concourse Junkies; They make strict interpreters of the constitution look like free wheeling anarchists. At least the ones from Zone 8 do.

Enthusiasts - most of the people here.

Hey! I take exception to the Ferrari Owners as Elitist. I own one and use it on the weekends. Target, fast food, fine dining, anywhere. I am hardly worshiping at an altar. But I may be the exception...

I am a Porsche enthusiast first, Ferrari second.

I no longer get the Ferrari thing. I used to dream about owning a Ferrari when I was a kid watching Magnum and Miami Vice but now I just don't get what's so cool about owning a car that requires you to constantly bend over. Three years ago I bought a new 05 Maserati GS only to be hit with a $10k bill for a new clutch at 3k mi. The car was gone after eight months. A friend of mine (p-car guy) went through the Italian bug at around the same time left ~$100k on the table after owning an F430 and a Marenello. I doubt I'll ever buy anything outside of Porsche and Audi.

There is something that bugs me about so-called "high-end-car" (Ferrari and Porsche come imediately to mind) owners that use their rides like flashing a Rolex. Sad that there ARE those owners out there where the badge is just Bling ...they make the rest of us folks who love the marque for its engineering, heritage, and personality look like the bufoons they are. I recall a thread here about those who love Rolexes, for example: it is clear that there is beauty, elegance, and engineering there that speaks to these devotees ...then there are "those" bufoons again. Can't do anything about them, and they will always be there.

Enjoy the car, the cammeraderie with good owners, and get your fingernails dirty every now and then. What "they" think is not worth taking the time to even consider. ...Dang, I just wasted my time considering them, nuts!!

There will be elitists in every marque group even in the Corvette crowd. Sadly at one time in my past I was once a member of the MB club as an owner of a 62 5-passenger coupe. Now those members are mostly elitists, evident in the content of their conversations. As an owner of a vintage car felt that owners of current model year cars were a bit cold shouldered.
I find that most P-car owners fall into the later two categories, you can weed the elitists out in traffic when you wave or flash your lights at them by their response or lack thereof.

Here here.
I hate flashing at other Pcar drivers and they snob me. I give them the finger if I can get my window down fast enough.
F Car owners are mostly a few steps above from what I see, but that's OK.
My car doesn't need a 8K belt change every 5 years either.
Still want one some day just to see what they are like.
