I have 19" RUF's on my car, they work great and have zero rubbing issues.
For some reason, it could be the simple design, they really look "right" for my car. Anyways, for the street the weight is not an issue (or at least it is not for me). I have driven MY02 equpped cars, other 993's with 19's and my car and the wheel differences on a street drive where very difficult to feel ;the only true way to tell is to swap the wheels on the same car so suspension/bushings/alighment/weight/age differences do not mask the wheel-only differences. My two cents is that the 19" wheels on my car is just right and its all subjective anyways. This is why you get so many opinions. I do agree that the 17" wheels are a bit more cushy given the higher sidewalls so you give up a bit of ride quality on the 19" wheels because of that.

My understanding is the RUF deliberately overbuilt the wheels both for high speed stability and strength ; I like the idea that these wheels will not go out of round on every pothole. I suspect some of the very lightweight specialized wheels are not that strong...that is just the engineer in me!

Here are some picts of my car...I think the 19" wheels look perfect!

Cheers,

Mike

I have 19" wheels and don't think they look too big at all.

Personally I LOVE the looks of RUF wheels on 993's 18 or 19 inch. I've been looking for these pics I took of Mike J's Targa a month or so ago and thought I'd post them. Hope you don't mind Mike!

since this is rapidly becoming a thread about Ruf wheels I thought I'd post a mini hijack.
Mine are for sale:

Unless you do the RUFS which I believe are made so the outside diameter are still about the same size as 18s my answer is NO. Your handling will suffer, your ride will suffer and everyone whos sees that there not RUFS will know or assume you did it for one thing BLING. I have 19's on my 2007 997 GT3. What am I doing? Ordering a set of FIKSE 18" profils. Why? because alot of us are finding out that the ride and performance are better with 18's. The 19' tires prices are STUPID high. More choices with 18" and just MUCH better prices. Buy yourself a nice set of BBS, Champion, HRE, or FIKSE's. Other than doing a RUF clone I can think of NO reason to go to 19's other than pure bling.
In my opinion that misses the whole point and purpose of our cars. There is so much you can do with your wheels instead of messing up your ride. Go deep dish polished rims body color centers.
Polished rims gold centers. All black a bazillion things besides ruining your ride quality

There is no win win with larger heavier wheels except for looks. If that's what you want-that's fine. I swapped out my hollow spoke twists with 19" Cargraphics and drove around for a few weeks (I kept my original twists). My impression was that the 19's sucked the life out of the car both off the line and in handling. I had changed them back to my original hollow spokes and sold the 19"'s.

Thanks for all the replys, I think I'm going to end up going with 18's. Don't get me wrong, I think 19's look great on 993's but I get the feeling I may pay the cost when it comes to ride comfort and performance. I also own a 02 M3 with 19's and a coilover (PSS9) kit installed and the ride quality between the two is enormous.

Very true brother. But....... "off the line" you probably need to go down to 14s if you want any improvment. An "offline the line" car is something you don't get with a 993 C2 no matter what size wheels you have on it.

Agree-I was referring to acceleration in general-car felt less responsive.

Franklin youre the first non GT3 guy I have seen who has gone through the exercise. 4-5 years ago the typical 993 guy, and in deed most 993 guys were about performance. But then again 19's werent as common.
There is a better selection of larger wheels now. Its starting to show in alot of different car communities.
But it doesnt change the fact youre changing the geometry of the suspension, and adding weight.
Again the RUF 19s keep the overall diameter the same at 18s not a typical application of 19's. The RUFs are still heavier.
