thanks for all the input, how anyone tried the rear facing installation? it is supposed to be safest for babies under 12mths.
I expect there would be problems with the length of the rear seatbelt to go around the seat.
any photos to illustrate?

I'm sure you could get an infant seat to fit if you slide the passenger seat all the way forward or remove it entirely. No chance of fitting one behind a passenger, though.

We did fit the infant carrier ONCE, as that meant wife had to ride in back with the baby, as the passenger seat had to fold forward to allow for the infant carrier.
The studies and recommendations I read said basically there are no probs in a crash with legs bunched, vs. risk with head forward. As I said, everyone has to make their own judgements, but the big point is 1 year and 20 lbs is really insufficient, yet is the common misperception.
Yeah but where will a 3' tall kids legs go if the seat is rearward facing?

Rear-facing infant seat
Contrary to some postings, I have fitted rear-facing infant seats quite easily behind driver's and passenger's seat (full disclosure: I am a modest 5'9 though). The type was a standard Graco Snug-something, I forget what. The base fitted very snuggly in the rear, and the infant seat clicked in firmly. No problem fitting the seat belt through, and it did not budge an inch. The whole set-up was approved as kosher by the child seat specialist at our local police station. My two boys have ridden in the back of the 993 since birth, and they are now in forward facing Britaxes.
Never let anyone tell you that our cars are not 'family-friendly'.

Britax starriser with adjustable width base works like a charm. The alternative is to fabricate a cushion that raises your munchkin to booster seat height which puts the shoulder belt at the proper position which ultimately is all the booster seat is for.

Reuben, thanks again for the pics, you are the one full of solutions!
please advise which model is your infant seat able to do rear facing at the rear seats? or is it the Britax Roundabout all the way? I got your idea of the clamps from the great pics!

Great topic. I've been searching this info for a few days. I am about to buy a '95 993 C2 cab and we are expecting our first child later this summer. Seems like the cabs have a harder time fitting in rear facing infant seats?
My wife and I were going to buy a Graco Snug Ride. Also the Orbit Infant Car seat has a small base... so that might work for us as well.
Guess the only way to know for sure is to buy the seat and do a test fit right in the car, which our dealer is fine with.
Any other suggestions for us cab guys?
thx in advance.

I use this one in the Corolla, but I bought it becuase it's supposed to fit 993. Seem less bulky than my Britax/FP. It's OK, but not Britax quality, plus I hate WalMart:

I put my 35" 33 lb. daugther in this Cosco Scenera yesterday for a little breakfast ride to Long Beach. If she shifted her weight just the slightest bit, it tilted forward until her face was almost touching the back of the passenger seat. She was quite a trooper, but her mom and I didn't like how it looked.
The problem is that our rear seats have such a shallow bottom cushion that there was no place to support the front bearing edge of the car seat. I'll try my Britax next time, but I'm less than optimistic.
Net net: Don't buy the Cosco Senera to use in your 993!

If you have a coupe, you should have no problems at all using the Britax Roundabout and the Mighty Tighty adaptor that tightens the seat belt at the side. As I have written in my earlier posts (scroll back), this combination does NOT shift even half an inch and has been approved by our local police safety officers. I would strongly advise against trying to modify any car seat by removing the base etc.
For infants (rear facing), the Graco SnugRide worked supremely well for both our boys until they were ready to graduate to the Britax forward facing seats. Then it is on to the Britax Starriser (or Fisher Price equivalent).
Not so complicated, really. Good luck.

The 'MightyTighty' can really only go one place - on the shoulder portion of the seat belt (below the side window).
