Default Seat Change Possibilities- What are they?

I do not want a racing seat, I want just a better seat with a nice finish, racing seats are too much for the street, I want an OEM look but something different. Has anyone done this before.

To fit a '97 targa

Sparco, Recaro, Courbu, etc... There are a TON. Best bet is to find a local shop that has a few on the floor & see what fits you the best. Some, you can get full power & heat, but you are looking at $2-4000 a seat!

I put in Recaro SRD cloth seats in my M3, it was a little under $2k for the seats, brackets, & hardware.

How about a seat from one of the other models like a 996 gt3? I have and like the euro gt3 seats, but they are basically racing buckets.

Mercedes has some great seats, perforated leather and all. I just rode in a AMG equiped 500hp wagon, it had great seats.

My stock 993 seats are "ruffled" look, looks like crap after 10 years, also the seat base has no support so your hips are on the bolsters which is painful after about 45 min of driving, I need the do something and do it fast. All the aftermarket seats I have seen look like racing seats which are great for racing but with an occassional customer in the car, its too wild and too tight fitting.

Also most have GIANT writing on the them, again cool for the track, but I am looking for great seats that the average person will think are stock.

Even the GT3 seats while OEM have huge holes for shoulder belts. Just want a clean look.

I am considering getting the the Recaro Sportster....reclines, fairly good looks (IMHO), color/cover choices, reasonable price, plus side airbags if you want/need 'em...

Recaro Sport toplines are nice too...can get them heated, nice in a cab. They do allow for harnesses later should you want to track it, but don't look stupid (IMHO) in the meantime. You can get the stitching in black too, so it is very stubtle.

With black, you have lots of options that don't require custom recovering. Don't ask what a nightmare that can be...

I bought a set of 996 GT3 hard backs for about $1,500 here. IMHO, they are more comfortable and look nicer than the softback sport seats.

Why drives a GT3 owner to walk out to the car one day and say these seats gotta go, we need better seats and we need them fast?

I think the guy I got my seats from had to put fixed racing seats in his GT3 for track purposes. He took the hardbacks out as soon as he got the car so the seats were essentially brand new.

Didn't take long to install them. There's a good installation thread here. The thing that took some time was when I had to Dremmel the rear aligment pins. I only did it on the driver's side (so the seat could be installed a little further back). Left the pins in place on the passenger side.

Good luck!

Will 997 GT3 seats bolt right into a 993 with minimal hassle? I need seats that recline
