Back on topic. I had my DD Audi S4 totaled.
I had about $35k to spend, in this range you can get some nice new cars, really nice German cars, E46 M3, E39 M5, 996, 993, Boxter S, etc..
I ended up getting a super clean, 74kmi 95 993. I have all records since new, it gets at least 1 oil change per year, & everything works, & everything looks more like a 3yo 20kmi car! I could not be happier!!!
I drove a few 996's in my price range, they left me cold. Yes, they are "faster" & handle better. But it's a totally different feel. You don't feel as connected & don't get the feedback. Most of the ones, I looked at needed some work, & had buttons, options that were not working. Really, they felt a little cheap on the inside. Great cars, yes, for sure, just not great for me. These were all 2000 & below 996's.
I also feel that most 993's are better upkept. People know they need oil changes, the 996's people just seam to drive them into the ground. I think there are way more 996 that were not owned by "car" guys, & just people who could afford a 911. Where as the 993's tend to be owned by car guys, most are 2nd or 3rd cars, where the 996's are really DD for the most part.

I'd consider a 996 for a daily over a 993 for one reason...A/C. My A/C sucked. Ask Robin. I think he and I share the same sentiment.
If A/C isn't a factor then I'd much rather have a 993 because even driving slowly it was very rewarding. The 996 is a nice car which I've considered if I sell my M5.

Another Navy guy! Welcome -- I don't know any other Navy guys on the board.
If you are a traditionalist and like the idea of driving a car that truly connected to history and is the last ultimate refinement of a hand-built tradition going back 30 years, and feels that way, then buy the 993.
If you want a fast, mass-produced car that is the product of computerized design and the latest technology, then buy a 996.
There's no wrong answer. Your personality will dictate the decision. I personally like "traditional" things in many other things like houses, golf clubs, clothes, etc.... so the 993 is a partly reflection of that approach. I have no interest in a water-cooled 911.
Good luck

Navy guys-Thanks for your service.
Stealth 993's observations/comparisons of the two models mirror my feelings and experience. Both great cars.
You gotta drive both.
At the time I drove a 996, I owned a '96 M3. I was disappointed in my M3 because it was too civilized. Not at all like the E30. I was disappointed in the 996 because it was too muck like my M3. But my M3 was a pretty great car. Just not for me.
Drive 'em both. You'll know pretty quickly which car is for you. Either one, great choice.

Boy, am I glad we(993 board) don't have likes of "B.Choi" and "Joey Carrera"!!!! LOL![ooops](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon501.gif)
*Drive both and you'll know... I DID!

LOL...here are some pictures of "Joey Carrera" and his 996. What a character! Too funny. I need to stop over the 996 board more often for some laughs. That thread is hilarious.

Hahahahaha .. !!!
funny photos .. !! the guy is .... what ?
kissing the photographer ?
topic: 993 Vs 996 f/everyday use ?
i will take a 1999 996.
is cheap to buy , nice car and probably cheaper to repair than ours ...
will never ever be a classic
(not offense, perhaps in 2090) ...
excellent A/C and good performance...
will save the 993 for more "special" situations ..
my personal appreciation of course ...

All I can say is WOW! I just dont get it! Oh well, mass marketing a 911 will get you that. Looking at the pictures of Joey, Im sure that HIS RMS is checked quite frequently. Odds are it is leaky....

I saw a couple of 996 turbos this weekend and wouldn't throw 'em out the garage...then I saw a guy in a euro spec 3.2 Carrera drive by. Wanted one of those, too.
