I'm surprised none of the NY-area guys have mentioned Ommegang. They have a bunch of small-batch, Belgian-style beers that are really good. They're located in Cooperstown, which makes a fun destination and a good double ticket with the Baseball HoF.

Glad to see Yuengling showing up a lot: that's one my staples. I took the brewery tour in Pottsville a couple years back. There were a bunch of college guys on the tour with me, making their pilgrimage. When we got the canning room, the guide informed us that even though Yuengling farms out some of their bottling, they do all their canning on-site. Thus, every can of Yuengling you drink had passed through this one canning machine. At that point, you'd have thought the college guys had seen God.

Rolling Rock was/is another staple, sadly it was sold to Bud a few years back. Very good with spicy foods.

Other beers:

Hacker Pschorr
Franziskaner
Guinness
Blue Moon
Hoegaarden
Chimay

Now I'm thirsty!

IMO, that's a whole separate discussion. Yuengling is so much better than budmillercoors and a great choice when you're in a dive bar and you'd fear for your safety if you order a Pilsner Urquell.

And the category of working in the yard or playing outside on a hot summer day, sweaty and thirsty and what to drink. Rolling Rock for sure. Drink a Golden Monkey or Chimay then and you may die on the spot.

I'm proud to say I've drank a good percentage (>65%) of the beers listed in this thread. Over time and through the seasons I change the beers I drink on a regular basis. That way I get to enjoy many different tasting beers over time.

However, one beer I really liked was Sam Adams Ocktoberfest (seasonal) last fall.

I live in Ft Collins, which may have more breweries per capita than else. I tend towards the New Belgium products because they are such a great company, but Odell's 90 Schilling is nice and Ft Collins Brewery's Choocolate Stout is good when I'm in the mood for something heavier.

As a side note I got to tour Owens-Illinois bottle factory in Windsor last month. They have four production lines that produce over 600 bottles per minute! Impressive place, full of the latest in factory automation.

I'm suprised no one has thrown any Japanese beers out there.

Kirin Ichibn is a great beer.

Hoegaarden/blue moon went to college w/ Wendy Yuengling a real family business. Her father told her she could inherit the business but had to start at the bottom sweeping floors and work her way up.

When you come down this way, make sure you hit Sapporo's on beachside for a Kirin!

Banzai. Care to share with me and the rest of us the names of some beers that smell like ***? Since you already know 'em I thought you could do use a great service by giving fair warning to stay away!

I'm a sucker for beer in a can. Don't ask me why. Something to do with tactile over taste I suppose.

Stella Artois reminds me of my dad. That was his beer when we lived in Belgium.
Michelob was what we drank in, uhm, the early years. Someone thought it showed more class than the usual Bud, Miller, etc...
Old Milwaukee saw me through college.

Older and wiser and with a choice I tend towards Bass and Newcastle on-tap, Heineken and Stella out of a bottle and PBR or Schlitz in 16oz. cans when I want to pretend I'm in college again.
