I started the wine thread but I like beer equally. Just that red wine has less carbs

For beers I prefer Leinenkugel's Red, Paulaner Oktoberfest, Stella Artois, Guiness, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, St Pauli Girl, Moosehead (the beer I started on at age 15), Erdinger Pikantus, and on a hot day after working on the car or the yard nothing beats a nice cold Corona. I really like trying any US micro brew I come across. In general, I like good beer. Since college, I haven't been able to stomach the watery mass produced American offerings.

+1 for north coast brewing! being in the northwest I can't stay silent - this is the microbrew capital of North America. I live 1/2 mile from Rogue brewery. Deschutes Brewery (Mirror Pond Pale Ale) in Bend are both great beers. I lost any tolerance for miller or bud since moving here a dozen years ago. waste of calories. With all due respect to some fine European beer they all have very similar flavor profiles. (no bias in my opinion there! ) Much of the worlds hops is grown near here and there is huge variety and great creativity in beer making. And some superb driving roads before the beer drinking commences!

now about those CA wines - the northwest is giving them a bit of a challenge as well......

My tastes are quite simple-Molson Canadian and the odd Corona on a hot summers day.

The beer I drink most often is Yuengling Traditional Lager, micro-brew taste
without the micro-brew price. Sam Adams Old Fezziwig and Saranac
Pumpkin Ale are amongst my Seasonal favorites. AAhhh!

Old Speckled Hen, Smithwicks, Sam Adams Brown Ale, Shiner Bock, Landshark.

Cold beer. I like those, too.

I pretty much only drink beer (no wine or liquor), and here's what I like:

Hoegarden (had this on tap at my school (U of A), first good beer I had)
Stella
Guiness
Boddingtons
Anchor Steam
Hitachino White
Pilsner Urquell
De Koninck

Actually, the list could go on and on... I'm not that discerning. I enjoy pretty much anything but the really thickest of swills and the light American stuff (bud, coors, etc.). I truly hate Rolling Rock, I think it tastes like it was made from potatoes.

I've found that European beers taste better in Europe. I don't know if it's that they don't pasteurize their beers there or what, but to me they taste different.

There's a really awesome beer bar near Chicago. It's called "The Map Room" (http://www.maproom.com) and I could spend every night of the rest of my life there.

Good news! Paulaner Hefeweizen is available in many configurations at BevMo, most notable in 5L mini-kegs. We bought one to celebrate the arrival of my 993. What's hard to find in the US is Stuttgart beers...everything's from Munchen! Speaking of which, I was at the Vegas
- Hoffbrau Haus and really enjoyed their Oktoberfest on tap, which is also available in 6 packs here.
- I tried a Drake's IPA recently that was bursting with flavor and had a significant alcohol content. I stood up and said, "Whoa!" Think it was like 8%!
- In and around San Diego, I really enjoy Karl Straus Amber Lager- sort of caramel in flavor.
- Anchor Steam is one of my absolute faves and available most anywhere these days
- Bud and Miller Lite are my favorite every day "more than one" type beers.

I have little experience with the "Belgian-trappist-monk-whitebread" type stuff, but again, I'm happy to try any of your favorites...
