Default OT:Five Killed In A 2008 BMW M5

From another board...very sad.

-------------------------

Fast cars + young men = TRAGEDY

http://www.ocala.com/article/2008012.../BREAKING_NEWS

It's likely "AmericanM5" from M5board

I'm just glad he's off the road, now at least he can't injure or kill someone I care about. Just would have been nice if he hadn't killed his four friends, that's what's really irritating.

Wow, really sad. I just surfed all over those threads and their links. I feel bad for 5 families and those close to them.

That's really, really upsetting. Stupid waste of 5 kid's lives.

Look at the last post in that thread about airfield drag racing was that Josh kid.
As one of the thread's said, Dads don't let your kids drive cars that they are obviously not ready for.
When I was a kid, my family had a hot Ford V8 but they knew better than to let me have it as my first car....

What do you expect when you put a 500 horsepower missile in the hands of a child? If his parents were stupid enough to buy it for him, they share the blame. My Dad used to have a saying for this kinda behavior: "young, dumb and full of ***".

Ammirato was driving his father's gray 2008 BMW. The $80,000 car was traveling north on Runway 36, a 1.5-mile long airstrip that actor John Travolta and others regularly use.
An 18 year old driving a 500hp '08 M5. Does this seem intelligent, to anyone?

Very sad and the parents will probably be kicking themselves forever because they failed to set the correct boundries for their kids. What a waste of life. May God be with them in their time of suffering.

I couldn't open them either, but saw this story on another forum. Really sad, but at the same time a predictable result when an 18 year old has access to a car like that.

next thing that will happen is folks will patrol these types of forums looking for harbingers of stupid behavior...

Hey.. we all certainly did stupid stuff with cars or bikes when we were ypunger.. I can think of a lot stupid stuff we did.. but fortunately we survived.. in my case partly because my 4 banger Honda Civic was not a hot rod!

I drove a 1970 911 in high school. And yep, I did allot of stupid stuff in it. Nothing like learing about tto (trailing throttle oversteer) in the rain as a dumb kid. Glad I only had about 120hp. If I had had something like an M5 there is no telling what I may have done. Autoweek had a great series about teen driving awhile ago. It should be mandatory reading for all partent and kids. Lets not even get into the teen drivers schools etc! As a parent of 2, my heart goes out to all of the families! I cant imagine what they are going through (THANK GOD!) and RIP.

I suspect that one or more of those kids felt that something was wrong about what they were doing and were afraid.. but maybe they were all stoned or drunk and had no clue.. I dont know..

THis is probably not the thread to post "what was the stupidest thing you ever driving" but I do remember clearly one time when I was about 15 or 16 riding in my best friend's older brother's 67 Mustang and I was in the back seat while he was going 100 at night down a curvy road and I knew for certain we were going to die..I was scared sh#tless.. when he slowed down I made up some story why I had to get out.. Peer pressure sucks..

it is one thing to risk your won life, totally something different when you have other's lives in your hands.

it is screwed up.. I suspect it will be a very sad period for everyone who knew these kids.. 5 families casts a very wide net...
