I had Michelin Sports in the 285's on the rear and had to roll the fenders (thanks to Garth S and a mini baseball bat). They still would rub on big bumps.

Put the ZIII's on in a 295 and I can stick my fingertip between the wheel and fender now - and no rubs whatsoever.

The fronts were not as bad....but still slimmer than the Michelins.

For what it's worth...I ended up getting about 12k miles on my rears, which are now bold. This included 3 1/2 track days. Very happy and will buy again!

Fronts still have plenty of life left....

yup, mine also heated up very quickly on the track (and felt oily, wabbly). I also dropped a few PSIs / wheel was good to go for the next sessions that day...

I just put the Sumi's on last week based on the recommendations of threads like this. My initial impression is that they ride a bit more harshly than the Contis I had previously, but that the grip is equal or better. I'll be very interested to see how they are in the wet (I didn't like the Contis much). And the value is unbeatable.

Really?

I replaced PS2's with Sumi's and the improvement in ride quality was astonishing. Been awhile since I had Conti's mounted on anything but I would guess they are closer to PS2's than III's.

What tire sizes and pressure are you running?

Been running 31 f / 34 r psi (cold) on the street and find the Sumi's quite comfortable for a max-performance tire. Better than the P Zero's I used to have. Haven't run Contis, so can't comment there.

Kept these cold pressures for the last DE I did a month ago, and was seeing 34 / 37-38 hot after a full session, with good grip and no greasiness. (Track temps were probably cooler than normal for that time of year - mostly cloudy in the AM, partly cloudy in the PM, with afternoon high temp around 86 deg F.)

Switched from the Sumi's the new Hankook Evo's...Like the evo's much better for ride quality, noise, and communication at the limit...

I've now had the Sumi IIIs on my 550 for about 1k miles. The Conti 3s tramlined; the Sumis don't. Turn in is just as sharp or sharper; road noise may be a little worse on rough surfaces. I haven't really tried to see where the limits are - yet.

Disregard everything I said. I realized that I had not taken the time to check the pressures the tire shop used due to a busy week and vacation travel. I just went down to the parking garage to check; sure enough, they are overinflated. I suspect that I will be happier with the ride once I get everything corrected this evening at home. FWIW, I was always happy with the ride of the Conti 3s, although as noted just above, they also tramlined. I'm hoping for better with the Sumis.

Well after 14,500KMs/9000 miles, the Sumi IIIs on the rear of my 97 C2 (285/30s) are almost done. Probably run another 1000miles but I wouldn't want to hit any standing water at speed right now. I've been genuinely impressed. As the fronts still have lots left, I'll probably order another pair of rears.

Although a full set of the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports seem to be calling my name.....

Just installed a full set of the Michelins on our '97 993 C4S yesterday (rear sumis were done at 9,000). First 50 miles was all in the wet and the Pilot Super Sports were very sticky, quiet and responsive. Sumi makes a great tire for the money, but in just 50 short miles the Michelin seems far superior. They are a bit taller, but still look very nice and on our stock suspension there is plenty of clearance.*

*Full disclosure: Michelin supplied us with the tires as part of their "influencers" campaign, but that doesn't change the fact that the tires really are that good. more to follow after we get some more miles on them.

i don't think anyone is arguing the sumis are better than the michis. But at half the cost, most people probably won't see the advantages of the michelins.

The new super sports should be far superior. I remember a posting from a rennlister 6 months ago that was invited by Michelin for testing to Dubai and he stated that the dry grip is at least as good as for the R-Compound PSC. Enjoy them. Still, for the money the Sumis are an interesting tire.

Exactly. Most people, despite how great a driver they think they are, wouldn't be able to get maximum performance out of the Sumi's anyway (or Hankook's or -insert your favorite brand here-) much less the Michelin's.
