I have Sumi's as a street tire.. First time I've used them. My GT3 is 60% track 40% street. I have track wheels and tires...

For street use only they are OK, they are real good when you consider the price. Decent Grip.

If you plan to do an AutoX or Track sessions at all move to another tire.

Hell if I can tell...... Better than the Bridgestones that came with the car. My cousin put them on his PSS10 equipped turbo and hasn't mentioned anything to me. And he's beyond ultra sensitive.

The HTR ZIII is one heck of a lot of tire for the money. I've been running them, size 235/40-18 (f), 275/35-18 (r) purchased from the Rack, on my '96 Carrera 2 coupe since last summer. Have about 3K street miles plus about 3 full days of DE on them.

Can only echo what's already been said...this is a great high-performance tire value. Mine replaced PZero Rossos, which I'd bought used / mounted on 996/Boxster Sport Design wheels, and which developed inside rear sidewall cracks.

As street tires the Summis are terrific. Quiet, good ride, excellent handling on the street, good apparent wear (even with 3 full days of DE on them). As track tires they'll do double duty in a pinch (a budget pinch in my case), but they really aren't "track" tires. Budget permitting this summer, I'm planning to buy a second set of wheels and a proper set of R-compund track tires.

Highly recommend them, though. A lot of tire for the money - good enough that I'd run 'em as streeters even if I could afford Pirellis or Michelins.

Good review ...

How did you arrive at the tire size combo 235/40-18 (f) and 275/35-18 (r)?

Ted,

Thanks! Arrived at the size combo based on two objectives: Increase front tire width and decrease front-to-rear width differential for less understeer, while staying close to the original 25" tire OD. On the decreased understeer front it worked well, and the Summis fortunately offered sizing options that covered these objectives.

My wife's boss drives them on his daily driver Boxster S and on the track. He is very competitive in the yellow run group ...

Blew out a Yoki Neova on the track, of course they were discontinued so I couldn't replace just one, d'oh.

So I bought a set of HTR Z IIIs for last week's event. Good grip, comparable to the Neova's, but more warning at the limit, which I like.

Heat up fast though! Had to drop pressures after a lapping session as they were starting to feel a bit oily. I'd say outstanding bang for the buck, but keep an eye on the pressures at the track.

Anyone else find these tires have quite a "huummmmmm" to them? My car sounds like an airplane winding up, especially on new pavement.....not that I'm complaining.

Yeah, I've noticed the Sumi's do create quite a bit of tire noise. Not my favorite, but a fair trade-off, given how inexpensive they are....

I have the HTRZ-III's and personally I don't really notice the noise, but then again, quite often I don't hear my wife either...

31-32 PSI cold seems to be the sweet spot for me. Wears right up to the markers and you'll get a good 15-20 minutes of passing R-comp-clad cars before the grease really sets in.

I start at 26 PSI cold, and they don't feel greasy after a 30 mn session in the Texas summer heat !
So you may want to try lower pressures.

Are the sumi's relatively narrower than other brands in the same size? I mounted. 285 on my 11in rims (I know, small for the rim but based on recommendation) and they were way stretched. I'm upgrading to 295's, hopefully they fill the 11in wheel properly? Any feedback from folks running 295 on 11in? I feel like I could easily get away with an 305, but it doesn't look like the make anything larger than 295

Great tires btw, much better feel than the yoko avs I replaced

The Sumi IIIs are much quiter than the 6-year-old Michelin "ribs" my 97 came on. I've got ~6000 miles on them now and still think they're a pretty decent tire.

A friend ran the Sumi HTRZ IIs on his car for a while and I noticed the same "undersized" issue given the size. The IIIs seem much better. This same friend is also running 295/30s on an 11" rim and it fits perfectly.

Actually, just the opposite. These are the smoothest and quietest tires I've found, esp compared to the previous Pzeros.
Due to hearing loss, oddly I'm sensitive to noise and these are very good in that regard. The good wear and decent handling are a nice bonus.
