I had them on during our recent North GA Mountain Run and they were awesome for canyon carving. Much better than the Pirellis Pzeros that they replaced. I think I have over 2K miles on them already and still look brand new.

However, on snow they're kind of like ice skates. It only took me a minute to figure that out.
That would be the major drawback of Max Performance Summer tires... good in dry, good in wet, nightmarish in ice and snow.

Luckily in NC that is only a problem for a few days every 4-5 years.

I was one of the commenters on edmunds who wished for a test of this tire on the long termer e46 m3 that they have. They indulged! But the review is not so good:

Well... yes and no.

There is no question that there are better tires than the HTRZIII - but the Yokohama Advans they compared were $550 more for the set. When you go through a set of tires every 15-20k, that adds up quickly.

The true advantage of the Sumitomos is relative to price v. performance. In the past low-priced performance tires (I'm talking to you, Kumho) required significant trade offs in quality and performance. The HTRZIII seems to break that mold.

But there is no doubt that, strickly on performance, there are plenty of choices better.

I just put these on the rears a few weeks ago...still squirrelly on interstates, they're that new. Hoping they are even better than the II's I had before.

295s will cause more understeer if you are pushing the car. Probably be slightly easier to hydroplane 295. Ultimate grip will be higher on 295.

Thanks. I will probably stick with the 285s as I already have enough understeer with the 4S.

Ditto, I found the C4S to understeer a bit more than I like. If you're not planning or tracking etc. no reason not to go with 295s. What I ended up doing was to go with 235s upfront (along with 285 in the rear) and I really like the balance. Might even step up to 245s next time around and see how that feels. HTR ZIIIs are continuing to perform well at the DE events. Great tires and not just for the economy!!

think the 295s need to be matched with 235s, atleast that's what I have - I read some place that with 225/295 combo you'll be under-tire which resulted in understeering....

225/265 or 225/285 are just great. I have both and love them. Yes, I have given up some versus my Pole Positions but not enough to really complain about. I have used them for AutoX, DE and mainly DD (and Arrwin's spirited runs!). They compalined a bit on the track but with an increase in presssure they were just fine. They are very quite and are very consistent. I feel that they are just as good as my Pole Positions in the wet (DD wet) and will run with them for another 8 track days and then go to R-comps.

The tires I replaced when I bought my 993 were 225 and 265 respectively, so I replaced with the same sizes. I have 235 and 275 on my 968 and have had for quite a while. Of course, I don't need to keep the rear end of the 968 as planted as I do the 993, so, maybe going with a wider rear, say 275 or 285, but keeping the fronts at 225 isn't a bad idea? Thoughts or advice?

What size do you C4S guys run in the rear? I currently run 225/40/18 f and 285/30/18 r. I noticed that some are going up a size in the rear. Should I stick with 285s or go to 295s in the rear? Thanks!
I went with 295 in the rear on my OEM rims. When my rim OZ rims arrive I will be stretching them onto 12" wide rims.
