No shortshifter out there for a C4S?
Why is that? Does anyone do a home made, or other pieced kit for the C4S?
It does shift fine, & it's not really that long, it's just I drive my other car with a factory shifter is 50% less throw, & I want it to be a little tighter in the 993.

The OEM short shift will work: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93104.htm
As I understand, you just have to make some room in the tunnel given it's AWD.
Do a search and you will find a few threads.

I have the RS short shifter in my C4S and it works fine. You must dimple out the sheet metal cover underneath the car to make room for it. Not that big a deal.

COOL! Ok, so, what are the PN# needed? How much is a dimple? Are we talking about the whole plate? I don't suppose there are any pics of this?

The car is not stored at home, so I can't easily get a quick photo, but the dimple is about golf ball size. The part is the standard 993 RS short shifter fork, available from a number of sources. I got mine from Dennis at Zims, he also custom made a billet aluminum piece to replace the rubber spacer in the rod. Their shop did the install, which included dimpling out the cover. The parts tightened up and shortened the shifter movement noticeably.

I have the RS shifter for Rufus, but haven't installed it yet. Some folks report that the dimple is just big enuff to drag on speedbumps, and get deformed, making shifting difficult/impossible. It depends upon how low your car is, and what sort of speedbumps you encounter. I had this kit on my previous 993TT (Waldo), and it worked just fine.

I've got the OE RS shifter on my C4S as well. My dimple got scraped once and shifting became constrained until I took the cover off and hammered it out again. My car is at RS height.

The dimple you need to make is quite large, low enough, like mentioned above, that it can drag on speed bumps etc. Its a bummer to have to take a big 'ole hammer to such a fine piece of German engineering

This link may give you some ideas for a C4S shifter install .... and the link in post 33 will provide an option for the 'dimple'.
Humm, that seams like more work that I had thought, that is quite the dimple there. I might just deal with the long rowing for a while, I just can't take a hammer to the car yet.

Consider this...
I have a mechanic pal...he sort of grins when people want short shifters in their cars. He feels that sooner, much sooner than later, they get too aggressive with their shifting, and voila, he gets a $8,000 tranny rebuild job.
Personally, I try to be very precise with my shifts...I have ground a few gears in the "Red Mist" of track battle, but I should know better. I do not have a short shifter.

Chris: My car's dimple is about 6" in diameter and it was there when I bought the car. I used a "little" hammer.
Stealth: You're putting a dimple on a small easily-replaceable cover being held by a few screws not on the body of the car.
