It is my understanding that slight yellowing occurs rapidly on the clear guards, which is more noticable on the white and silver cars, thats why the colored ones only come in those colors from the factory.

I'm following this one with high interest. I need to pull my old ones off and replace them too. Would really be interested in black vs. clear. Let us know the final results.

I contacted a couple dealers and they said that black is not in the parts list. I had black ones n my 3.2 - wonder if somebody has a line on the same materail ast the black stuff and we could use 993 guards as templates.

I'd check with these guys.. http://www.headlightarmor.com/
I have bought a set for my headlights and the material (3M, I think) is really nice.. (it's a new material that wont yellow) they also have a smoke, and, though not shown, most likely a black in some sample book.. The thing about black is that it may never match, a good clear may look much more invisible on a black car..

Wurth (IIRC) sells a spray on in black. I may try it because mine have been removed (in rough shape) and the paint is all chipped up. I can still se the outline in the paint from the old ones, so I may mask and spray mine on when I get some time.
