Default 993 Noisy Spoiler Drive DIY

Last weekend I tackled a DIY repair on my noisy 993 spoiler drive. Using these instruction: http://p-car.com/diy/spoilerdrive/ I was able to easily determine the noise was coming from the spoiler drive worm gear. Following the instructions, it was a snap to disassemble the worm gear housing and locate the dried out bearing. The replacement bearing is a common one found at any bearing shop or on the internet. The reassembly was a breeze and a couple of hours later I tested the drive and was well pleased with the quiet operation. This is definately one of the most satisfying DIY's I have done on my 993. Give it a try!

Cool - did mine the week before, definitely noise-free nirvana. I found myself looking in the rear view mirror..."Did my spoiler go up...down..."

Is this bearing something we should be lubricating every once in a while to help it last longer?

I simply sprayed the gear bearing with lubricant and the noise went away. That was four years ago.

Renaud, you'll need a 16x5x5mm sealed bearing, often called 625-2RS or 625DD. I found mine on eBay.
Cheers,
Tore

I've got the bearing sitting on my shelf-maybe this weekend. I've got the urge to fix something.

Renaud, I have one if you want it. PM me your address and I'll get it in the mail.
I don't hear mine anymore since I installed my ducktail.
