Default Motorsound question

So, I have Stage II's and wide ovals; is there any "benefit" in either drilling my stock airbox or replacing it with the OEM version? By benefit I mean either additional sound or performance.

Jay, In my opinion what you get is more bling when you look at your engine, a sportier sound and more performance between your left ear and right ear. That's what it did for me. Mike

It makes the car give an intake howl that is really, really cool.

I drilled the airbox myself, no difference in performance as near as I can tell, but the tone of the exhaust is a bit deeper and louder, not a lot, particularly from inside the car, but a tad louder.

It is an inexpensive easy DIY mod.

Do it for the sound.

I agree with Falcondrivr. I have the motor sound option in my car and the howl is awsome. When I am in the expressway and I step on it the sound is grrrrreat.

FWIW, the factory motorsound airbox cover is like $90 from Sunset. Get it and try it. If you don't like it, someone here will buy it in about 5 minutes.

I bought a drilled airbox cover for $20 off a Rennlister. It did help let in that beautiful Stage III growl into the cabin. Can't say it made it any faster, but my smile is wider.

If you want me to dyno my face again, just let me know.

my car came with the motorsound option, and I have not driven a non-motorsound car in anger to compare. But IMHO, my car was way too quiet (even with RSR's), so I added as many 1" holes in the cover as would fit (6-10?). It now has a nice growl at WOT.

ok, I have a question.
Once I convert to an RS fixed wing, and add the 993 Turbo intake trumpet, would I be advised to lose my motorsound airbox cover to get a stock one with no openings to feed air to the engine but the trumpet ? Would I be defeating the purpose of the 'cold air' intake trumpet by having motorsound holes letting warmer air from the engine compartment in as well ?

speaking of noise though, the next time the engine gets dropped the sound pad is coming out, I don't want a new one that will just crumble in another 15 years ;-)
