Default How easy is front bumper cover removal?

I hit a gas station island on July 4th and scraped up my left front splitter and the bumper cover just above it. The darn island had the yellow line around the top of it EXCEPT for where it jutted out at the end, which was exactly the same color as the concrete below it. Horrible noise. Anyway, I need to have them resprayed and can get it done reasonably cheap if I bring the parts in already removed. How tough is getting the front bumper cover off?

It's super-easy, Rick. You have to loosen/remove the fender liners to get at this piece of hardware. Robin's site will set you free.

Removing it is not a big deal. Basically, remove turn signal, bumperette and fog light. Remove 4 top screws under hood, remove 6 bottom screws under bumper/splitter, remove 2 screws per side for bumper to fender and bottom bracket. Need to remove 2 front wheels and fender liner to get to those.

What is a PITA is re-installing it and aligning it. You may want to also buy two new rubber gaskets since the old ones need to be removed for painting.

There are details on p-car.com DIY section:

Oh man, sorry to bother everyone here. I never recalled seeing it on Robin's site. Hopefully, reinstall isn't too bad. Sure wish I could find a cheapo euro bumper cover.

Re-install is basically pretty simple, too. The new gasket takes some patience to line up, you'll wrestle with the wheel well liners a little and the alignment takes some patience and a little grunting. All in all, a couple of hours of fairly easy work.

Rick,
Shout if you need a hand - it's fairly straightforward.

Bummer about the scrape.

+1 to everything said above. I haven't done much in the way of DIY projects, but I have taken the bumper cover off and reinstalled it. If I can do it, you certainly can.

Hopefully you had some rash that needed re-spraying? Also, are your resistors OK? Some say they're easier to do with the bumper cover off...

I did my resistors three years ago and my car didn't have a single scratch or ding on it before this scrape. I'm bummed. Somewhat tempted to go for the Euro bumper.

I say go for it. Your car would look GREAT with the Euro bumper. Then you'd have a pair of splitters that would need a new home, wouldn't you? Hmmm...my car doesn't have splitters...yes, that Euro bumper sure is nice...

Rick, have you considered doing this? --> https://rennlist.com/forums/diy-993-1995-1998/197319-diy-filling-bumperette-holes.html

I know our favorite shop in upper county doesn't care to do it. But, they can get you a good price on an Euro bumper if you decide to go that route.

Yeah, I saw that thread and talked to Jack about it. He said it would eventually crack and look bad, especially since I'll be moving to AZ soon and the car will see some more sun than it currently does. Jack said he can blend the paintwork on my bumper cover without having to do a full respray, but that he can't warranty it because of some issue with clear coat on top of the current paint and clear coat. He said it would be good for several years though and I'm sure I'll get a Euro bumper by then anyway. Just for kicks though, what could I sell my bumper cover, splitters and US-cut clear corners for, should I delude myself into thinking I could offset a good portion of a Euro bumper?
