I just changed my 12 spark plugs (long story) and want to install the new BERU set. However, am I right that the lower dist feeds the intake and the upper dist feeds the exhaust ? Also, the prior owner has the $$$ BERU cables' IDs out of order. Am I right that the left side of the engine is odd (1-3-5) and the right side is even (2-4-6) with the lower numbers closer to the rear of the engine ? Also, the twin cap coil wires; am I right that the far left wire is for the lower cap and the right coil is for the upper cap. Many thanks, Patrick '96 C4S

The lower most rearward dist is #I , and fires all the top plugs in the order 1-6-2-4-3-5: Dist II follows that order for the lower ("exhaust") plugs. The left bank is cyls 1-2-3 as Danny said.
All this should be on the yellow decal on the relay box above left of the distributors.

Looks like the prior owner made up his own plug numbering system; after checking all the wires were going to the right plugs (thankfully).
By the way, what is this part ? It's rest just above the alternator area and fouls the spark plug wire route and is oiled up. Thanks, Patrick

This is the resonant flap control valve. The shaft seal is leaking. I have the same problem. You have to replace the whole unit for about $150. 3-4 weeks wait.

Regarding the vacum flap valve, I got the two 10mm bolts off but how does Porsche expect anyone to get the actual flap valve mechanism to release so the unit will drop off the Varicam housing ?
have a problem with the new BERUs, I reseated the new 3 electrod plugs but to no avail; 2 of the 12 BERUs refuse to snap onto their respective new spark plugs----Is here a tool that could force the new BERUs onto the plugs ?
I ran her anyway and she idles even but two of the BERUs are clearly not snapped onto their new plugs. I also see that the BERUs have a flat side, does that mean the BERUs should enter the heads at a particular angle ? These BERUs looked like the original wires ! As did the plugs as their gaps were very wide.
Why does Porsche insist on using Philips heads here when hex heads would work better ?
I checked the high miles 112k twin-dist and the rubber belt looked new; could it be that 993 style air feed to the number II dist cap actually works ?

I took these off to change the plugs and I forgot which way (and side) they are supposed to go; are they the same ?
Thanks, Patrick
BTW: I got the new BERUs on the plugs, and found that if the new spark plugs are not fully threaded that would creat a situation where the BERUs could not extend far enough into the cyl head to snap onto the spark plug.
Usually I stop a slight tightness on new spark plugs but to get the BERUs on properly I had to tighten more and more and beyound what I felt was reasonable tightness.
Thanks, Patrick
