Default Bad idea

Hi guys,

I was wondering if it's a bad idea to put the following wheel on my car for DE's?

Front: 225/40 ZR18 on 7,5J x 18" ET 40
Rear: 265/35 ZR18 on 9J x 18" ET52

TIA

I would not say bad, not optimum, but reasonable. The rubber is certainly fine. Hopefully you got them for a very good price and you are looking for inexpensive consumables for your DE learning experience.
I would run them if given to me but I do not have the ability to take my car to the edge of performance that might expose their insufficiencies. It might be fun to experiment with the wider track that these offsets will provide. Wider track, narrower wheel, interesting.
Let us know your results if you decide to go forward.

Those sound like Boxster wheels...and they will fit offset-wise but IMHO would not be the best fit/width and are less so than your factory wheels. BTW, those rear wheels make for a perfect pair of front wheels if you are trying for something more aggressive than the factory 8" ET52.

They are in fact boxster wheels. I'm just a bit afraid that it will have a negative impact on the car at high speeds (not feeling stable etc...)

Thanks

Hi David,

My car came with 17" Cups. Front were 7J x 17 ET 55 and Rears were 9Jx17 ET 55.

Would a set of Hollow Spoke Boxster wheels be a small improvement over the 17 Cups?

JMO, but yes it's a bad idea, for for stability during track use you want the widest wheel that a selected tire can use. Your target wheel widths for 225/40 & 265/35 x18 woulde be 9 & 10.5

To qualify, my advice was based upon my observations from the back of the Green Run group.

Yes they would be a improvement performance wise but not much. But these will limit your future tire size choices...IMHO if you are going to the trouble of getting new rims then you should get ones that are the proper fit...and the widths should be a minimum 8"/10"

I agree, but if someone offered my these wheels/tires for say $500, I would try them.
