Default Nasty clicking sound from the front when shutting off the engine

It happened twice now, as I shut it off at the gas station and again at home.

Coincidences, or related?:

Atlanta suddenly turned hot today.
Just had an oil change.
Sunroof motor bogs down ever so slightly, I mean a smidge.

Otherwise, the car operates normally. No hint of trouble until today.

To my uneducated ear, judging from the location and the nature of the sound, it seems to me like a relay's about to fail. What do you folks think? I have a spare DME relay at the ready...

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Thanks. What makes them fail, out of curiosity?

Well, the DME relay wasn't the culprit. I changed it out, and the clicking noise from the front at engine shut down is still there.

Assuming a relay of some sort is failing, what's next in line to check after the DME? Or is there an easier way to troubleshoot?

My clicks upon starting- with brand new DME. It has since I bought the car.

Ed- I've been intrigued by your avatar since I first saw. Whats the story?

If you have used the brakes heavily, they will emit a "clicking" noise as they cool.

Oh, the boy in the foreground is my son Frank. He plays violin, and that shot was taken a couple of years ago at an outdoor concert. A chance snapshot caught that juxtaposition of him and the girl in the background (she was the singer in the act following Frank's violin troupe), and I thought it was hilarious.

So your car clicks at the start and has been since day one, without any ill effects?

I also have a loud click during warm start... but I do not know exactly where it is coming from though.

The look on his face is priceless- kind of like he just lost his virginity- or would like to at least with the girl behind him.

Since I've owned the car I get a pretty noticeable click at the instant of turning the ignition- if I had to guess it sounds electro-mechanical than purely mecahnical. But start it does, each and everytime.

As I was driving it later this morning (after getting some new tires - wow, what a difference!), I heard clicking as I braked and made a right hand turn....does this offer any clues? something weird with the calipers, perhaps?

It's a C2S. Current speculation by my mechanic is focusing on the ABS pump.

The clicking noise is now intermittent when I start up, turn, brake, or shut down. Some searching here said the ABS pump is muy expensivo.

Am I digging myself into a deeper repair hole by driving it home from work today? Non ABS braking performance is totally fine.

A couple of different thoughts, fuel pump or the fan located in in front of the car (potentially the impeller is hitting the cover as there is little clearance)

Hmm...quite possible.

Next time I drive it will be when I'm taking the car to the shop Thursday morning

Nothing painfully bad sounding on the way home today (even punched it a few times with no ill effect), but it did clatter something fierce in the garage when I shut it off.

Hi, remove fuse after fuse and hear if the noise is still there. If you find THE right fuse, insert again and drive your car. Then remove only the fuse you find out and hear again. Maybe you have found now the system part to search for the defect.
