NA vs 993TT vs 996TT

It's usually a bad sign when I start surfing Autotrader and ebay on a regular basis. But after 1.5 years with my NA 993 C4S, I'm starting to get the itch for a TT. I may very well do nothing but the thought of almost 200 additional HP is very appealing. Besides, I can't get comfortable with the knowledge my bimmer is faster than my Porsche, even though that's just in a straight line. It was quite a while after I started looking before I pulled the trigger on my C4S so this may take a while as well IF I decide to trade. I really love my 993 and the idea of trading it doesn't sit well, but I would like more power.
However, for those that have thought about a TT and kept their NA 993, what were the over riding reasons for sticking with your NA car?
Also, I'm seeing 01 and 02 996TT's, some with the X50 package and half the mileage of a 993TT going for the same price or less. Other than looks, what would drive a Porsche car enthusiast to pay more for a 993TT that has 50 to 90 less HP and is 6-7 years older?
I got excellent advice from you guys on my last purchase and would appreciate your thoughts.

I've got a cab now and the plan from day one was to get a TT in addition to the cab for the extra horsies. I've had an 02 M5 and two other 400HP cars within the past four years and as you well know, it can be tough going back to lower HP. 12 months later, I just can't justify two toys right now but I want to replace the cab with something more track friendly and safe for the SO to drive.
I pondered on a 997S, 996 GT3 and a 993TT. I got over the 997 idea pretty fast and it was a tough one between the 996GT3 and the 993TT. Interestingly, I settled on a well-setup 993 C4S. Fast in the rain, safe in the rain for the SO, what I think will be lots of fun on the short tracks and while I really like the thrust of big power, performance is what I'm really interested in now. I want to hone my driving skills at AX and DEs and I much prefer NA power over turbo for these types of events. Turbos also require cooling after every drive and that will get old for me with the short distance drives that sadly make up a lot of my fun driving recently.
As for the 996TT, it was never a consideration. Lots of power, but, at the end of the day, it's a 996. The 996GT3 on the other hand, is a different animal all together and I plan to own one and/or a 993TT once I can get a few steps further with my driving on the C4S.

Great questions and great choices. The stock, standard 996TT has 415HP, whle the X50 has 450HP (I think), whereas the 993TT has a measley 400HP. So the difference from the 993TT to the standard 996TT is not really measurable, while the X50 should be noticibly faster. There are lots of valid reasons for choosing either car, but the differences are pretty subjective and only YOU can make the right choice. Us 993TT guys usually quote the scarcity, the more connected feel, the heritage, and the better looks. The 996TT guys mention more amentities and comfort, larger cockpit, and of course a more modern design with a stiffer chassis.
Without a doubt the 996TT is more amenable to modification for really huge HP.
Drive nice examples of both, and you'll quickly be addicted to the HP rush, and you can make the right choice for you. Good luck.

I had a 993 C4S and made the switch to a TT. When the TT first came out, I thought I'd never be in a position to buy what I thought was the most beautiful car ever. I was pleasantly surprised the up charge was only about $20K. If you want the power of the 996TTX50, talk to Kevin. He can hook you up with the goodies. My brother has a 2003 and our cars are about dead even.

Go for it! My 95 C2 has a supercharger and the extra HP really make it for me. I had been thinking of a Cayman, because of the new handling technology, and the mid-engine balance, when I went for my first track session. That made me fall in love with my car again because of the boost. I just couldn't go back now. I still think about newer cars, but for the present, my car is great. If you have a hankering for more power, I say go for it.

I look around and have considered 993tts and GT3s. Frankly, after a lot of thought and some test drives, if I ever find a GT3 that is in good shape, and that is close enough to test drive (and no, I won't travel the planet for it), then that is what I would consider as a replacement for the 993 C4S. A RUF turbo R or BTR would also be up there, and if they ever stuff a dry sump GT3 motor in a Cayman, maybe that, too. But no wet sump engines. Oh, and the GT3 can be 996 or 997 (obviously in a year or 3) variety.

I have had thoughts along similar lines. For me to upgrade, would go hand-in-hand with newer technology. I'd be looking at the 996 GT3 or 996 Turbo. But they are very different animals.
That being said. No rush here, as the love afair with my Targa still continues. Even my wife says " I love that car".

Are you taking "Coolness" into consideration?

993TT by a mile. what a fantastic vehicle. However, keep in the mind that the more power you have, the less you'll be able to use it on the street. The track is a different story though...

Changed from a 993 C4S to a 993 TT, don't regret it one bit, the TT is an awesome car, particularly with the factory 430bhp option, you may even be able to find a stock one fitted with the 450bhp kit, so don't rule it out because of bhp against the 996TT.
Both great cars, but I just love the look of a 993TT, a truely iconic vehicle in every department...GO FOR IT!!!!!!
