Nice garage. I'm designing a smaller one. I'm interested in truss designs that leave enough room for a lift while staying close to the bylaws restrictions. Is that roof design referred to as a raised tie? Did the builder elaborate at all as to why he wanted to stick build it. Thanks.

I don't know what the roof design is called. He did not use a truss system because he said it would cut into the usable space. Specifically I required a tray in the ceiling that is about 9' wide and at least 14' high.

Chris,
Did you paint the area that is black and brown going up the side or is it a different type of material that is more durable than drywall? I had planned on just painting that area in my garage. We did make base molding from 1 x 6 treated wood and then routed a 1/2 radius on the top, the contractor said that would be more durable.

No reason to have to track down a used hydrolic lift. They are pretty reasonable to buy new. I think it would be much harder and much riskier investment to search for a used one.

I think mine istalled was about $5500.

B-line. That looks like a nice solution. How high is your ceiling?

To be honest, I forgot the ceiling height. I could measure it later.
But if you understood how my garage was laid out, you would understand why those numbers are not buried in my head.
My garage is staggered. I actually have 3 bays that are all different heights from one another. The bay on the far left (with the lift,) is the lowest and the only bay that could accomodate the lift.
The lift is a ONE POST lift, which is a little more expensive than the two post lifts. And it's not really designed for doing work on the car (which is fine by me, I own a wrench but don't know much how to use the damned the thing.) The lift is called a PARKING LIFT.

Here's a pic of my house so you can understand how the garage levels are staggered.

And for those of you trying to figure out the configuration of the house, you have to realize, it's a hillside house. They build very different in the hills than you would on a normal landing.

yeah Ron, just paint, there's actually a couple of Guards Red pin stripes above and below the black stripe. I hand painted everything (what a PITA!!) no tape lines. Came out ok, but was long and involved. I may repaint the bottom section now that the floor is done. I may try to match the orange on the floor. I'm doing 1x6 base trim as well, I'm not going to worry routing the top. Paint it with oil based paint and be done with it. I am going to caulk the underside before nailing and then after as well to seal the floor off so I can spray the floor down to clean it.

Someone asked what lift. Its a Direct Lift from Greg Smith equipment. Mike J sort of talked me into it. Great deal, well built and BLACK! Been using it since the moment the oil went into the lift tank

Finished installing 4" sewer line and 1" water supply line to garage. Only water supply line is visible in photo below, the sewer line is a foot or so under the water line.

Finally get to start painting garage interior. Rented scaffolding so it should be easier and safer.
