Default Where can I find contemporary 993 magazine articles?

I've been searching, both here on RennList and on the internet in general, for magazine test drives for the 993 when it was new.

Unfortunately, I haven't found too many. I assume that this is because 993 production ended as the WWW really took off and before magazines started electronically archiving their articles. But I'm sure some are out there.

I heard of an EVO comparison on the top 911s ever, which sounded good. I particularly like the British car magazines, which are often better written and photographed than American ones, but I'm open to anything on any 993: C2, C4, S or TT models.

By the way, I already have Adrian Streather's Essential Companion, but I'm looking for more subjective road tests.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Either Car&Driver or Road&Track put out a compilation of these articles. I would check their archives.
Excellence just did a recent article about 993 current values.

Matt, I always prefer the British mags as well. Funny, I was just digging around yesterday and found a whole wack of them. CAR, January 95 had a writeup on a C2 tiptronic, C4 coupe and C4 cabriolet. CAR, June 95 had a yellow GT2 as well as a comparison of a 993 turbo and a Lamborghini Diablo SE. CAR, December 95 had a drive 0f the 993 RS on the Route Napoleon in the south of France. PERFORMANCE CAR(precursor to EVO), had a test (numbers and all) of pretty much every variation in early 96- from base C2 right through RS and GT2! Autocar had many different articles, too many to list. The one article that I seem to have lost is the Car and Driver long term(40,000 mile) test of a 95 C2 pre-varioram coupe, it was even midnight blue like mine! I'd love to see the before and after numbers as well as how the car held up(I think it needed a clutch at some point). I'll post more as I remember/find them.
Cheers, Tim.

A good compilation is the "Porsche 911 Gold Portfolio 1990-1997" and the "Porsche 911 1990 - 1997 Takes on the Competition". The first book is a compilation of articles from Car and Driver, Road and Track, Autosport, AUtocar, Motor Trend, etc. The second is a series of articles on comparisons, articles from the same sort of players, Road and Track, Autocar, 911 & Porsche World, etc. Both fun to read to see the original reviews (bad and good).

I bought these years ago, publisher is Brooklands Books for both.

Cheers,

Mike

I have most of the Car&Driver articles, including the long term test (Also probably have a lot of the CAR and Performance Car tests if I look hard enough...)

I'll happily post these for everyone tomorrow if someone will tell me the best way to get the scans up...? Guessing I need to use an image hosting site???

Cheers,

-Daniel

Daniel, PLEASE tell me which issue C&D has that long term test and if you can scan it, that would be great! Been rumaging in the garage for a couple hours now and had some neat finds; some old Christophorus, more old C&D(but not THAT issue!), and a box from PCNA postmarked March 95 with brochures on the 993, 928GTS, the exclusive program and "colors". My car was built April 95, spooky! Mike, I've yet to have the pleasure of meeting you, hopefully soon as I think some of your experiences could be quite informative.
Tim.

Tim,

We are having an informal meet at my house tomorrow morning...see my post with the address. I am doing an oil change and some other stuff on a few 993's. Its very informal. If you can swing by you can take a look at what documentation I have (and I might have a small "present" on a CD for you if you show up). Its from 8:30AM to noon.

The link is Link to informal meet

Cheers,

Mike

Tim,

The long term test is in the July 1996 issue

Here's my attempt at posting the article... ( If it doesn't work I'll have to figure it out in the morning)

-Daniel

: Thanks for scanning the article, now I can rest! If I had the ability, I'd scan that Evo article, I've got every issue of EVO(2 in most cases!). Mike, thanks for the invite!. If I can get up early enough(I start work tomorrow night at 7, returning on Wednesday, got to love trucking!), I'll come by. You've probably read my other post trying to decipher what springs are on my car; I'd love to find out!
Time to sit by the fire in the backyard and have a few more "pop".

, Tim.

Wow, thank you for the replies. Thanks especially to Daniel for the scan of that long term test. That was great.

Tim, you should get someone to scan in the EVO article. Does anyone know if you can get back issues of EVO easily?

Thanks again!
