Textar Brake Pads
When I bought my car last year it came with brake pads of unknown origin that lasted through six track days but squealed like pigs so I replaced them at the end of the summer with the OEM Textar pads. Blissful silence ever since but now it's track season again. Any thoughts on how the Textars will be on the track? I'm a casual DE guy (yellow group) and run street tires so I'm not super hard on the brakes.

I'd recommend you go back to a higher performance pad for the track (buko info at Perf. & Comp. threads). But of course, different tracks have different affects on brakes and tires. Some are harder on tires and some are harder on brakes. I recently went to a TT at California Speedway (harder on brakes). Personally coming off of the banking at 145 to a 35 MPH left hander I wanted better brakes than the OEM.

Not sure what car/track or speeds you will be experiencing, but the textars or OK on my 95 993 on tracks that are not tough on brakes. That said, I don't use them anymore. I use Pagid RS-19s, but a search will give you everone's opinions on pads.

I used to use pagid oranges and they made noise. I now have the pagid yellows(RS-19) and mine are fairly quite; however, if you search I think you will find that the majority of rs-19 users will say they are noisy. I think it varies widely, and is not necessarily repeatable. But, I don't use the pagids on the street, so my noise assessment is based on to the track and back. I must say, the rs-19s are superb on the track. In the long run I think you would be better off using the textars on the street and swapping out for track pads of your choice when you head for the track.

Textars are just fine at the track for a casual DE driver. I accidentally ran Textars at a practice session for a club race; the pads felt a little bit spongier but they stopped me with no drama.

If you go to a stronger pad, you'll end up eating thru rotors. If you own a car with big reds, that gets rather expensive. I run textar pads, and have gone 2 years and a half dozen DE's with the same pads and rotors and just replaced the fronts only after I hit the wear sensors and chunked the end of one pad. They dust abit, but make no noise and stop pretty well. Unless you race the car or drive 11/10ths don't bother with anything else.....it really isn't worth the investment.

I run textars at DE's. Chris is right about the rotor wear. I'd rather give up a little breaking power and reduce the wear on my rotors. I also have more trouble with squealing when I did swap out for Pagids on the track. I assume it was due to the different material between the two pads building up and wearing off the rotors, but I don't really know for sure.

Ha, kind of funny...being so close. Not this year, I did go last year and it's a very nice facility. I do get to Blackhawk a couple of times a year though.

I took out some ceramic SBS pads due to the squealing on the street. They worked wonders at TD time. Did a TD yesterday with the textars and had a total brake failure as the pads overheated. I let them cool and all was OK.
Considering going back to better pads.

I had used the OEM Textars for track use for over an entire year (IIRC) and had nothing but good things to say about them. They were predictable, didn't fade, and felt solid. The only reason I ended up changing to PFC track-only pads was more to peer pressure (...I weak around faster drivers ). What the PFCs got me was better feel and more torque ...but no better times. In fact, I was inadvertantly overbraking so much my times got worse ; I had to relearn how to slow the car. I think unless you get seriously fast, the OEM Textars still leave plenty on the table to work with.
