Default So, how bad is it?

After a week of owning my dream car I got smashed today leaving the auto parts store. Other drive was at fault. Collision was at about 10-15mph. I had nowhere to go except into the side of her. I hit her on the drivers side front. Headlight is destroyed, fender is mangled badly, front bumper is cut at point of impact, wheel is scratched pretty bad and its leaking wiper fluid from what I can smell. Car still rolls, body shop says mostly (if not all) cosmetic damage. Just looking for things that the adjuster may miss. What is in these areas that is damaged, other than whats visible to the eye.

after only a week........
going to cry in my beer now

Remember that, if you had original paint and the car had not previously been hit, the car will be worth considerably less after it's been fixed because of the accident and you're also entitled to that in addition to what the actual cost of repair is. There is a term for it, but I can't think of it off the top of my pointy little head. Could be around $5000, though.

Hey, look on the upside: Sounds like a great time to switch to a euro turbo front bumper.

The oil cooler is in the middle, just referring to where the tubes go into the cooler. Depending how far across to the middle the hit was.

I think the term is Diminished Value.

Sorry to hear about the incident. Just get it fixed at the best place you can find and get back on the road and enjoy it.

Best of luck,

chuck

+1 Also considerTurbo ducts/fogs, headlight washer delete and a front protection bar, too. If you add new shocks/springs, you might be able to have her insurance company pay for the corner balance and alignment you are going to need anyway.

Thanks, Chuck. That's the term I was thinking of.

Do a search and find what others were getting in compensation for diminished value. There have been several threads over the past couple of years.

Take pics of it now so that if/when you sell you can further reassure the driver that it was not that bad....

good to know. I'll make sure the adjuster is aware. This is the kind of things I need to know about! Thanks Jim

Well this sucks. Very sorry to hear this! No worries on the oil cooler as its all located on the passenger side corner. A/C is on the left side, make sure the body shop checks into all of those components. Sorry to hear..

I think your neck is sore and your back is stiff, too, and there's no way you can work at your $500/hr job...

(that's what a Californian would usually say, forgive me...)
