Wiper rest position - why?
I've seen the article on how to adjust the wiper rest position and against my better judgement I'll be attempting this when I have a spare day.
What I can't understand is why Porsche built the cars like this?
My car is UK right hand drive and the wipers rest on the right as can be seen on my avatar.
I understand that on left hand drive cars the wipers rest on the left.
Madness!

Maybe Porsche's (and most any car manufacturers') opinion was that the wipers would do their job as soon as you needed them to. Parking them on the other side of the windsheild would mean a delay before the driver's side would get cleared. Just a thought.

I once started to do the switch the old fashioned way (by rotating the linkages by the wiper motor). My hands are fairly large and after fiddling for a while just to try to get off the linkage to rotate it I concluded that day was not the day to do this...it takes LOTS of patience and good dexterity. The stuff is buried deep!! And this is from someone who has rebuilt his engine from the crank up.....I might attempt it again in the spring one a nice and warm day when I am totally relaxed.
Either that or you can do the relay trick (do a search)...which I have not tried yet.
Cheers,
Mike

I did the relay thing - takes about 2 seconds to pull the relay and can be put back whenever you want. probably not the thing for a DD, as the intermittent feature no longer works.

I generally keep the relay pulled and have slightly moved the arms so that they park low when on the passenger side of the windshield. When you want to use the intermittent function you can cycle them manually. When the rain isn't steady I've found that I miss the parked wipers on my side as they deflect a lot of water.
That said, I like the way they look parked on the passenger side and as Bob says the view of the hood & fenders is a plus.

I've reversed mine. I love the "view" without the wipers there. Not that the wipers block your view, but that I just love seeing MORE of the hood and fenders.
They definitely are not as effective parked opposite of the driver. What bothers me the most is that while driving, if you do a wipe and park, the wipers hold the water "down" on the windshield and route it to drain off the side. With the wipers not parked in front of you, the water runs straight up the windshield with the wind pressure. So you always get a streak until you can get things dry and clean. That alone might lend itself to the benefits of simply removing the jumper instead of permanently swapping positions. Then you could park on teh drivers side in wet weather, and on the passenger side other times. Hmm... maybe I'll do that anyway.

BS911 hit it exactly. When you park the wipers, they stop the water drops from blowing up the windshield in front of you. I noticed this this yesterday while driving in the rain and decided NOT to adjust mine to park on the passenger side. My non-daily driver '69 has the wiper delete option though.
Like Mike, I couldn't get my hands in there well enough to reverse them. I pulled the relay and adjusted them to sit lower and am very happy with the result. As others have said, I enjoy being able to see more of the hood and curves in front of me.
