Default Replacement Shocks

Hi,

I want to replace my shocks - I think they are worn...But would like to keep the same ride height (stock). Any recommendations and pricing? Who is the best vendor to purchase from?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Damien

Hi Damien:

Install a set of Bilstein HD struts & shocks and you'll be a happy fellow,... Springs are the key items that determine ride height so if you retain the the stock ones, you will not change anything.

I really cannot advise you on choice of vendors without compromising myself,.....

Damien: With all due respect, why do you want to keep the ride height stock?? Are you in NA or ROW??

Everyone on the forum speaks very highly of Viper Bob for these kind of parts. I've never bought from him yet, but he took the time to e-mail me with some answers about suspension issues. His e-mail is vbmotorsports@gmail.com . I don't think you can go wrong with him.

+1 on the HD's I have them on my 964 and they are really well built units. I think there is a 'long thread' version of them for the 993 on the front but if you are planning on a stock ride height that's likely not an issue.

On the 964 untis the front strut pistons are massive. They look more like forks off a superbike than a car shock!

Jack - I like the stock feel of these cars...every mod on my car is a factory mod and I feel the ROW ride height is a little low for me...plus, I have a cab...purely pleasure driving.

I too am considering new shocks/struts for my 95 C2. PSS9's are way over the top budgetwise for me so I'll be going Bilstien HD's as well. I live in an area that is very hilly with a few "compression dips" that will bottom the car with NA ride height. I like the look of ROW but in my specific case, I believe the extra few milimeters come in handy.

Damien: Undertood; it is a free country. buuuut remember, these cars were designed to be driven with a ROW ride height. And I always thought every drive in a 993 was a pleasure drive. : )

pchansen1: Have you invetigated get's front protection bar? Also, just about any new suspension will protect from "bottoming out" when compared to a worn out 10 year old suspension.

For what it may be worth, my C4S with stock NA suspension (@65K when it arrived last July) could be bottomed out on out back country roads .... and wore the signs of scuffed air deflectors on the front control arms, etc. of previous contact .... numerous times ...

Now, with HD's and ROW MO30 springs & bars, it is set much lower .... to the lower tolerance of ROW 'sport' - with the positive result that at much higher speeds ------ not a single contact with the road surface has occurred.

While that may seem counterintuitive, it is not: that is a verification of what good shocks will do - even with a lowered chassis and somewhat stiffer springs.

With all due respect, since they came with NA ride heights from the factory, then that means they were also designed for NA ride heights. I don't see anyting wrong with keeping the stock NA ride height.
