No. I don't see it as an either or situation.

I have the heads fitted to my 1995 non varioram C2, they made 350BHP and 425NM on the dyno.

Have done around 15 track days with them fitted and they are still as strong as when first fitted.

Been on the car for a year.

I need to watch my right foot in the winter is the only issue, went down the road sideways just before Xmas beacuse of an over application of throttle. Gave a great show to some people waiting for a bus. But no harm done!

If you have any questions ask away

Could you imagine that kind of HP with a re-geared tranny? I would love that in my '95 cab. I could keep up with by buddy's '06 C2S cab.

Hi Jack of hearts,

the complete engine spec was:

Billet heads
9m cams
9m valve spings
Solid lifters
live remap
Cargraphic 100 cell cats and exhaust .

Interesting for track work the hydraulic lifters were not happy with the cams and heads, so solid lifters were fitted.

Cheers

John

How is the remap being done? Is there a commercial software package for this?

I have purchased the following 9m equipment and should have it in the next few weeks for fitting over the next few months. The hard thing for me is to find someone in Hong Kong to do the live remap. I have failed to date and it looks like I will need to ship my car to Zhuhai in Mainland China to get this done. I will post my impressions when all is completed but this is months away.

Billet cylinder heads
Sports camshafts (mechanical)
Mechanical cam follower kit
100 cell split flow cats
Ported intake manifold runners & machined injector stacks
K&N air filter
102mm 9m Clubsport pistons, 12.0:1 compression ratio with 102mm x 107mm slip fit cylinders

In order to try and stay calm and sleep at night I try not to think much about this wonderful kit.

I've said this before, but I find these numbers very hard to believe. 425NM is approximately 313 lb-ft, for a specific torque output of 87 lb-ft / liter. That's a mighty high number for a street-driven, NA car. Also, to make 350hp, it's got to make that torque up high in the rev range, where filling with a long port gets tricky, especially with the standard 41mm. And I believe this is done with no increase to redline. I'm not doubting you guys, I'm sure it makes good power, but these numbers are simply difficult for me to understand . . . I'd appreciate it if someone could explain how they're getting those numbers without a raised redline.

I unfortunately cannot explain a thing as I do not have the technical competence but can only add to your bewilderement and let you know where I am coming from. The beauty of the 9m +2 kit (3.6 litre) and the +3 kit (3.8 litre) is not just the power but the wonderful increase in torque across the whole rev range. Here are some figures (not exact as I am reading off graphs) from the dyno graphs Colin sent to me and posted on this board:

993 standard varioram
3000rpm 128hp, 305Nm
4000rpm 190hp, 340Nm
5000rpm 270hp, 380Nm
6000rpm 295hp, 350Nm

993VR +2
3000rpm 158hp, 378Nm
4000rpm 238hp, 425Nm
5000rpm 300hp, 425Nm
6000rpm 340hp 405Nm

993VR +3
3000rpm 170hp, 400Nm
4000rpm 250hp, 445Nm
5000rpm 312hp, 448Nm
6000rpm 356hp 420Nm

Now the torque from the +3 kit is awesome to me. If you need more detail on how it is done then check out the Total 911 article. If this does not suffice then I suppose there is nothing more to do. Assuming that the figures are correct and this all happens without unduly stressing the engine (judging from other first hand experiences on the 993 and 964 board on Total 911 I have no reason to doubt either) then I am relaxed as to how it is accomplished. Someone does not need to prove to me the “how” if they prove to me the “does” . Just my 2 cents worth.

I think most agree that the 272 non Vario number is correct whereas the 285 Vario number is a little high .
My experience with standard 993VRs in the UK. running decent gas ,is that 280bhp is a more realistic number .
That would make the Stage 2 325bhp at 6000 ?

Geoff
