Jason,

It is not as simple these days. The latest software version will turn on a headlight defect light if I do aftermarket HIDs. The dealer may be able to program the car's computer and turn the light off, but they will know that I messed with the head lights.

I long for older cars that are much less complicated.

Pong,

Not a problem, if you were to get the HID kits from Xtec which has the built in voltage circuitry which will sidestep this "bulb out" issue. I had the same concerns when upgrading my BMW K1200S too which gives me a bulb out error if the proper voltage isn't detected. I put the Xtec HID kit in and did not get any error messages of any sort. That's a that you could undertake. And I too long for the uncomplicated nature of older cars too.

Jason,

You have a link to Xtec, and a source to buy it from? I may be interested if I don't have to worry about dash warning lights.

Thanks.

Wait for the speed to fall enough and shift to 2, then up to 3. Pretty screwed up. All the other Caymans that I test drove shifted like a dream. I guess my test drive when I picked up the car was too short and I did not notice the flaw. Upshifting was not a problem at all.

I took it in and tried out other Cayman shifters and none is like mine. The shop foreman looked at mine and said something is definitely wrong. I have an appointment on Wednesday to bring it in for warranty repair. Hopefully it is just a installation issue. I will know a lot more Wednesday afternoon.

That is the bad news for now. Hope to have better news soon.

Its Friday... so what did you hear from the dealer? All fixed?

I got mine from here: http://www.understeer.com/onlinestore-lighting.shtml

Just scroll down a page or two and you'll find them. There are several versions. I'm not sure if your high/low headlights are used by the same bulb or separate types. But there's a HID bulb that can do both. You probably would only need the single low beam HID type. I got the "race" version which is a bit brighter than the stock version. Works great! I'd go for the "Xtec" version which as I said before, has the circuitry needed to sidestep the voltage check issue.

And looks like Eric found you.

Hi Eric,

Welcomed to the 993 Forum. Are you still in So Cal now? The IS 350 is a good car. Is that stick, or auto? That is the only Lexus with a manual option I think.

I did not get my car beck for the weekend. Bummer. They have the transmission open and could not put it back together in time. I don't think the problem is fixed either.

Jason, I went on-line to look at Xtec. They did not show a kit for the Cayman line yet. Well, it's not a big deal as I rarely drive at night.

Just need to find out the bulb type for your lowbeams and then get those bulbs. There's no kit specifically for the Cayman. It's all dependent on the bulb type.

So Jason,

Is there a way to see definitely what bulb type I have in a base Cayman? I'm very illiterate in these matters.
