Thumbs up Newly painted spoiler grill

Happy Christmas Everyone,

Sorry it's such a crappy shot but it was a grey old day and the car is filthy (no wash for two or three months!). My body shop disowned the paint work but I think they have done a very good job. I'll see if the paint match is perfect when I wash the car; it may be why they wouldn't take payment for it. The finish is perfect (front and back!). It looks like it should always have been silver so I'm really pelased with it.

Cheers,

David

That's a clean look, David.

Sounds like you have a real upstanding paint shop.

Thanks Jeff. I really like it. My old 3.2 was Grand prix White and I loved the contrast between the while and the black trim. On the 993 (especially without the bumperettes) there is hardly any black trim so the grill looks like a huge black patch on the back. I think this updates it rather well.

My bodyshop are extremely good. There bread and butter is Rolls Royce restorations but the owner is a Porsche fan so he does a lot of Porsche work and specialist work. I love going there as they always have something interesting, be it a speedster, a GT40 in for a complete repaint, old Maseratis, etc, etc. They can blend paint in on a door and you cannot tell where the joins are, under any type of lighting, etc. It's amazing what they can do. They are real old school perfectionists. I gave them a scratched up, second hand grill and I get something back that looks like all the parts were silver to start off! There is a tiny bubbling inside one edge of the grill, in a crevice where a bit of paint has pooled so that mey be why they are not happy with it. I'll get some better shots when I've cleaned the car.

Cheers,

David

I hope so.

I didn't have the heart to tell you to use some of that money you saved and hire a professional detailer to give her a once over. Whoops, did I just say that?

David,

Looking really nice. As you can tell I am a big fan If I hadn't done the "split" thing, I most definitely would have done what you did. Polar is not an easy color match. I'd be interested to hear your impressions once she is clean.

I did the same with my SY coupe...no bumperettes and painted grille. It really makes for a nice clean updated look...love it.

Caveman: Nice look. I have had white for many years and just put on a split grill in white I like the look, even on white, and it looks especially good on your car. It s also nice that you have a quality body shop working for you. Sort of a rare item.

Here are some post-wash pictures. I think the paint guys have done a great job! I'm really pleased with this.
