Drove a new Z06 yesterday. My impressions were that it is suprisingly well made. Lousy visibility and claustrophobic cockpit. Somewhat numb steering, but unbelievable power. When they say 0-60 in 3.5 they are not kidding.
I'm sure that it handles incredibly well, but the feeling of the steering just wasn't what I am used to in the Porsche.
All in all it did not give me a case of the wants. It just reinforced my opinion on my 993.

I own a C6 with ONLY 400 hp and 400 lbs torque. Not the same league with a Z06 but the new generation corvettes are not corvettes our fathers drove. They handle, their ride is surprising comfortable and they are freakin fast. A real contemporary muscle car. And with the B&B exhaust, it gives me goose bumps.

Yep, lots of nice new cars out there. They keep getting better and better, and more expensive. My Porsche is now a bargain for what you get, pricewise on the used market! I'll never sell my 993.
Here's a new car I like too. Big time lust here...
: 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, top speed =155.3 mph. Sweet ride.

I've tried, but just can't seem to warm up to Vettes. The latest styling looks like they were trying too hard to make a statement and a fair amount of cheap-looking plastic. Very impressive perfomance for the $$, though. My favorites for style are early 60's and mid/late 80's, just before they went with the square-ish tailights. (Reminicent of Ferrari's round tail lights.)

Before buying my 2005 C6, I too was NOT a vette person. Now mind you, I have owned many Porsches including the 993 Cab (and missed!), but the value proposition of a new Vette was simply amazing.
My decision to go with the Vette was rather sudden. I had my 993 Cab for 10 years and wanted a change. I was shopping a 997 Cabriolet with 4 different dealers and it was very hard to keep the MSRP below $100K. Every item that in my opinion should have been standard was an option. Any of you who have ordered a new Porsche can understand. At the same time, I was thinking about the fun I had with Detroit muscle ('69 Charger R/T) and took a new Vette for a test drive. I was sold. Add to the fact that it was purchased under a GM supplier program for $46K, and had all the toys (HUD, Zenons, full leather, heated seats, etc.) and 400 hp/ 400 torque, I said...why not.
Do I miss my 993...you bet! Will I get another 993....maybe or more likely a 997.
So, hold back your Italian/gold chain comments since the counter to that comment is that "Men who drive Porsches usually have a small *****".
.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Good friend just picked up a previous generation Z06. But it has what amounts to a streetable C5R motor.
Yee-hah, can that car go. Stops well, too.
Very impressive car.

I got lucky enough to get a drive in a C6 Z06. I was very very impressed, now keep in mind I have never really driven a 993, or high end p-car, but I was in awe of the Z06. The thing handles like its on rails, has more power than anyone could ever use, but is still very streetable.
Now if someone in my area has a 993 that they would let me drive so I could compare the 2, I'd be very happy to give you my review of the 2 cars
