I've owned 3 Vettes and I'm on my 10th 911
After taking random careful measurements during and after these purchases
I've noticed no particular growth in girth or length on mine.
You're fluctuations maybe directly related to the need to retain your ego level after
realizing that it was a major mistake to sell your 993 and get a Vett!

Yee-hah, can that car go. Stops well, too.

Very impressive car.
In a stock '02 Z06 with just tires and brake-pads, I did 2:31.617 at Road America; I can't imagine what a C5 Z06 would do with a 427 in it!

For all you haters out there, a stock C6 Z06, including the stock tires did the Nurburgring in 7:42.xx.

Best bang for the buck on the market today for sports car. Compare performance (off the track) vs. price, hands down the winner. Those cars are fast.

i don't think many would argue the speed the new vette is capable of. they are truely unique and capable sports cars.

the problem, from this hater anyway, is the fact that the build quality is decidedly poor. i think the vette shows miles and age very poorly. this is to say that a new one is very different from one that has 20k miles. i think this is unforgiveable. to me, it doesn't matter that it only cost $70k, if after 2 years it feels like it's worth $30k.

I like the Vette for what it is, but you can't beat the 911 because it has those rear seats that my kids love riding in!

My thoughts exactly... ...but I will just need to drive a new vette to get it out of my system. I like the looks and the spec sheet looks nice... been to the dealer a couple of times and sat in one. The interior is far ahead of the old ones.

I just need the rear seats for my children and the 911 works well as a daily driver and family car.

I do not agree. I had mine from 8 miles to 21k miles, and it still looked brand new inside and out with zero squeaks or rattles. All I did was maintain it as any car-guy would.

i think this is unforgiveable. to me, it doesn't matter that it only cost $70k, if after 2 years it feels like it's worth $30k.
Again, I disagree. I bought my car brand-new for $47k, three years and 21k miles later, I sold it for $35k; you do the math.

From a performance-oriented guy, the C5 Z06 is a better car than the 993 in every way except for the seats. The 993 is ridiculously slower, and doesn't handle nearly as well even with Gert's RoW HD Sport suspension; thank God she's a looker though!

On the other hand, if you gotta have that 'clunk' when you shut the door, dig on those sexy hips every time you open the garage door, or like to revel in that fine German engineering, or care about what other people think about you driving a Porsche (..versus a 'Cheby'), etc, yet at the same time don't mind getting your doors blown off once out of the driveway, then the 'poseur' 993 (..from a performance perspective) is for you. At least that's the way I look at it, and I've owned both.

I wouldn't say "ridiculously" slower, but no doubt, slower.

I haven't been on a track yet in the friends C5.

What were the brakes like at the end of your 2:31 session at Road America?

I had the opportunity to drive a C5 Z06 and I must say that at teh end of 3rd I was done. That was enough. No I did not melt tires, just let the clutch ut let her roll and then rolled on the gas.

I love driving my car, I have wanted a 911 since I can remeber, BUT I have never been laid back in the seat and held like that. The acceleration is brutal. Ir was a straight line run, so no handling impression but as far as go power,

Would I trade mine for that. NO WAY.
Would I like to have both, yeah maybe but I'll be ok if I dont.
My fear is cars with that much brute HP and Torque need to be driven right. And I just dont knwo how to do that. I feel my car is more progresive, smooth, linear.

OK so I love my car what's new

Mike, it is quite a marked difference.

With respect to the earlier link with the C6 Z06 doing a 10.85, that same guy, Ranger, in a stock C5 Z06 including tires, did a best-of 11.81 in the quarter mile. With just some drag radials, he did an 11.52.

Here's a link and check out his sig:

A stock C5 Z06 accelerates much harder than a NA 993.

I haven't been on a track yet in the friends C5.
Hopefully it'll be setup right for the track with a good alignment, as well as tires, brake-fluid, and track-pads. I hope the car isn't 'slammed' if it has the stock suspension.

What do you drive and what's your time at RA?

What were the brakes like at the end of your 2:31 session at Road America?
Brakes were as good at the end as they were after initial warm-up. That day I was running some trash-can Kumho V710's and 'Wilwood PolyMatrix H Compound' brake pads which I definitely recommend for the stock calipers. I do need to bleed the brakes at the end of the day at RA, and, I need to replace the front rotors after a weekend at $25 a piece at Napa. As a side-note, burnishing the rotors is very important so they won't crack.

I've attached my G2X telemetry (..great unit!) of my 2:31 run (..red) which also has my 2:37.1 in my 'new' 928GT. I've driven the GT only 3 times so I'm not quite used to it yet. Next time out in April at SpeedSeekers I should be able to do a 2:31.xx as I'll attack the Kink next, providing it's not too cold out.

Starting on the left-side I'm already accelerating on the front-straight, and at 5000 feet I've started braking for Turn 3, etc, etc, and on the far right, I'm braking and negotiating Turn 14. I have another shot with the track-map the G2X draws along with the segments.

2:41.6 in a 944S2 this past September.

Thanks for posting the data. Interesting to see it. My best through the kink is 112 at track out on Hoosiers, but I only had my eyes open long enough to glance at the speedo. Usually I'm 108-110
