Default Another Happy LPMM Convert.....

I am glad I kept waiting to buy an aftermarket exhaust. I decided to try the LPMM conversion on my stock mufflers and the result is just what I was hoping for. There is a distinct deeper, more mechanical sound that, in my opinion, is the perfect volume. Sounds better when starting the engine, and has a great throaty sound when under accelleration. When cruising, just barely louder than stock. I used 2" Stainless pipe for the bypass.

A big thanks to fellow Rennlister Darin Fister (FisterD), I gave him the mufflers and a 2 foot section of stainless pipe. He gave me back 2 LPMM mufflers that make beautiful music. I was really impressed with his craftsmanship and welding skills, awesome job Darin!

If anyone is considering this mod, I highly recommend it. Sorry about not having any photos, I was so excited to install the mufflers, I forgot to take pictures. Paul

Thanks Paul! I'm glad you like them.I think they sound great, too. Here are a couple of pics.
Pguy, you're next. Order the Stainless pipe from Burns Stainless. Let's get this show on the road.

I am getting ready to do this mod myself, and it is good to hear about another person who is happy with it. I bought a spare set of stock mufflers off eBay for $50 just in case I screw up or want to go back to stock for any reason. I can't wait to get it started!

LOL,
Glad you guys like it. I need to redo mine as the beta set were pretty well hacked up and I didn't use the proper welding techniques so they're pretty ugle now. Plus I used the smaller pipe as a cautionary measure.

If anyone is not happy with their LPMM's I'd be interested in buying them.

Order the pipe, and I'll do them all at the same time. I have a set I'm going to do for myself as well.

Was going to send you an email Darin but others might want to see the answer here...

I need 2ft of 2" Stainless pipe, right?
Order it from where? I take it I can't get it locally?
I was going to do this myself but I am pretty sure your welding skills are better than mine
Thanks!

Correct: 2' of 2" stainless pipe.
Here's the place http://www.burnsstainless.com/. They will ship it right to your door, around $30, I think.

Hey Great to hear you're all enjoying these...They are awesome.

Leland, Did you manage to get yours past the TUV inspections? I recall you saying it was a worry.

For anyone interested, I've got a set of Gillet mufflers off my 96 narrow body. 70k miles on them. No tips.

Anyone interested? PM me for pics.

Clive, I didn't have any problems at all. There is an outfit on base that handles our inspections and they were only interested in safety aspects. In fact, I'm kind of sad that I parted with my cat-bypass pipes.
Canysmc,
There is a video clip of the pipes in grmnxtc's signature block.

Yes, clarity is everything ... 2" of 2' pipe would be one impressive bypass ...

I used 1.5" stainless as Leland first reported ( as it was readily available), and am very pleased with the results - it would be interresting to have sound clips to compare to a 2" bypass ... I wonder if there would be a marked difference??

i also did this mod and could not be happier. my car sounds absolutely awsome...the acceleration, deceleration, cruising speed...it all sounds great. i had our machine shop do my mufflers, and they hacked them up pretty bad-lucky you can't see the mod. i used 2" pipe as well.
