Default Retro fitting tweeters

Anyone managed to use the existing housings to fit now tweeters into them?
It's impossible to find some new tweeters with housings the same size. It's a pain. Got the new drivers installed but I still need new tweeters for tweeting!

Yes, I installed new tweeters in my original enclosures. It's a long explanation so I'll type it in a couple of hrs.

I have both retrofitted MB Quart tweeters into the stock housings but have also made a mount for a Vifa silk dome tweeter that fits on the door panel like the stock unit.

Here is a drawing / photo of that Vifa mount:

Feel free to PM me with questions.

I recently installed some Alpine SPX speakers and the tweeters fit in my stock 993 housings. That was a big bonus. If you do a search you'll find the exact model. Dunno if you could buy just the tweeters separately or not. Also, I did have to do some grinding on teh black plastic tweeter housing with a dremel. I'm sure that would be true for any aftermartket tweeter you try to cram in there.

It took 20 minutes for you to get an engineered drawing. Getting help from others shouldn't be this difficult.

Ok, I too put in MB Quart tweeters in the original housing - I used some hot glue to hold the housing against the tweeter - worked great.

Somewhat related, what size door speakers should I look for to replace my OEM waffle papers?

Chris:

I have used various 7" drivers for the lowers. I have a Seas 7 that I did a custom crossover for, but there is a nice Dynaudio 2-way that others have fit.

If you have not seen the site, check out "Madisound" for raw drivers.

Any 6 1/2" speaker should fit. I did the change over of the tweeters. Simple really. Like unneundreike I also used hot glue. Worked great!

Thanks Jim! I am looking to add RS door panels and want to upgrade the door drivers and tweeters. For my Scion, I installed CDT -stuff- with the stagefront technology voice tweeters up high, and really really like these speakers.

I am looking for a driver that will fit into the 993 door and prefer it to be pretty much a bolt-in application. Do typical 6" drivers work as such?
