Default Rear Spoiler warping?

I replaced my stock c4s rear spoiler with the split grill version from the "s" model, as the original was warped in the middle, at the top and stood quite proud from the cars bodywork.

Guess what! The new one is starting to warp also? I've had a look and there doesn't seem to be any adjustment, as the spoiler bolts on with 4 bolts to the lifting mechanism, any clues?????

drilling open the holes [where the plastic pins from the grill mount] may help it relax a bit. Just a few sizes up from the current sized hole. They never fit perfect and often times need a little float.

Chris which holes do you mean? I have four holes where the spoiler (outer frame) bolts to the lifting mechanism, a metal hex bolt screws through these, do you mean these or is it another set of holes?

many thanks

This is the warping I mean, a picture shows it so much better than my rubbish description! When I first fitted it it sat flush to the bodywork.

I've taken the spoiler off, and in the four holes that mount to the lifting mechanisim were four plastic washers/sleeves that fitted inside the holes on the spoiler frame. I have removed these so now there is a little play in the spoiler. I guess this has achieved the same thing as drilling the holes out.

I hope these are the holes that you where referencing Chris?

Mine is warped like that too. It hasn't bothered me before, but now that you bring it up it will probably start to bother me too.

Well, another project to add to the list...

Please post your solution, so I can check it out too.

Those werent the holes I was referring to. Sorry as my desc. was poor. It doesnt matter anyhow as I thought it was just the grill you were referring to.. Not sure what to recommend at this point -- havent seen that one before...

I think I will slightly ease the metal arms that the spoiler frame bolts to out also over the weekend, as it will pull the leading edge slightly tighter and then that should get it flush again.

I'm not sure if I should put the plastic sleeve washers back in, leaning towards yes at the moment, as they must be there for a reason?

There was an Excellence article concerning rectification of that issue of warped spoiler grill. Sorry, just can't remember which issue of Excellence. If I locate which issue, I'll scan and post it.

I think the warping was caused by heat rising from the engine while car is parked in your garage.

It's my practice to open the deck lid after a long drive as soon as I park my car in the garage. I have my TT spoiler for 5 years now and still looks like new.

I hope this helps.

I have a slight warp though not as bad as the picture. I was told by my garage that it's quite common. If you are messing around with the fittings please be careful to check that everything clears as the spoiler goes up and down. My bodyshop told me about this risk when I was asking about getting my grill colour coded.

Cheers,

David
